      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Coating blocks with a metal

Hello!

I have an idea for decoration buildings, bridges etc.

What if we could coat wood or stone blocks with a metal? We could chisel block, melt gold for example to liquid, and shift+right click on chiseled block will cover this block with gold (just change texture). So we could have gold spires, bronze sculptures, copper fences etc. So many beautiful ideas and not so much work—just textures for each metal and changing algorithm.

So we could have application for tons of gold, copper and bronze we have. Becouse we find much more ore that we can use.

Thats the thing. This "just" is actually quite hard the way MC stores block data. You either need to dynamically create tons of blocks with ID and metadata combinations. But this becomes problem, because there are only 4096 available IDs. Other option is using tile entities, but then, it would cause bigger saves, longer load times and probably other performance issues. But I guess that is not a problem, considering there are mods that do just that.

Hmmm... When u turn on/off redstone lamp in vanilia, doesn't it change texture? I thought that wouldn't be problem to make the same...

But I'm not mod maker, may be I don't understand something.

Lit lamp is a separate block. Or at least it was at some point. Look it up.

 

Though if we coat the entire block, there should only be like one more DetailedTileEntity block ID and two full block IDs.
