      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Ceramic mold unnecessary step

8 posts in this topic

Why can't you just pour ceramic vessel directly into tool mold (like you would do in real life) but you pour into some ceramic mold and then to tool mold. Why like that? Then different tool could even use different amount of metal. Like small knife can use less than big pickaxe.

Honestly? it's because the metal-filled molds use the item's damage value to determine what type of metal is in them; ie if the damage is 1 it's copper, 2 is bismuth bronze etc (don't think those are the real values btw, just for example). When said mold is crafted (breaking it to obtain the shaped metal), the recipe checks the damage value of the filled metal mold to determine which tool head it should give you. However, ceramic molds and the vessels use damage values to track how much liquid is in said mold in 1/100th units. When the ceramic mold is in the slot in the vessel GUI, it slowly fills with molten metal. The tool molds would not be able to do this and therefore can't be filled directly from the vessel/crucible.

Bottom line: we know it sucks, but it's not because we think it's logical and fair, it's because the two items behave differently.

Can you add useless toolheads that would be produced if player aren't using the correct metal maybe? And that way bring the behaviour of all molds to the same denominator? I would also like to see toolheads that need to cool down before you can extract them, and this might help achieving that.

Uhh... you don't have to use the damage value to track how much metal a mold contains. IndustrialCraft 2 keeps track energy in a rechargable tool in an NBT value separate from damage, although it does use damage to show how much charge the tool has left. I know this because on one of his server-plays, Direwolf20 was wondering out loud why one of the blocks from Ars Magica (which repaired damage) wouldn't recharge his beloved IC2 tools, and it was explained that the IC2 damage value was only a proxy to the real value tracking charge.

So lack of clay is due to balance issues so people will be forced to make their tools in anvil to save clay?

What lack of clay? I can't swing a dead cat in my world without hitting a block of clay. While looking for your graphite I wouldn't be suprised if you literally came across 100+ deposits of clay.
