      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

2 options of ores from rocks

9 posts in this topic

Hi again!

I don't know if it is a bug but it is really annoying to me..

minecraft 1.6.2 forge 9.10.1.871 tfc 0.77.15 and 0.77.17 same problem.

So if i build new world and hit rocks on a surface there are two options of receiving ores. I get sphalerite, tetrahedrite and cooper or I get bismuthinite, sphalerite and cassiterite. If I get bismuthinite, sphalerite and cassiterite from rocks there is no option that I will receive cooper. I tried on every type of rocks and it is always the same.

On "World1" I get bis, spha, cass and never cooper and tetra.

On "World2" I get tetra, cooper, spha and never bis or cass..

Anyone had such a bug like me?

Is there any chance of getting bismuthinite on "World2" under the ground if such a bug appears?

Have you tried traveling beyond your spawn area? Different minerals appear in different rock types. A list can be found here.

Yeah I tried in EVERY rock type (of course on the surface) and it's always the same.. I don't know what is going on..

Cassiterite and bismuthinite can be very rare on the surface. Cassiterite is only found on the surface in granite, while bismuthinite is found in igneous intrusive and sedimentary rock layers. Tetrahedrite can be found in every rock layer, and should be relatively common. Native copper is only found in igneous extrusive, so it can be difficult to locate as well, but since tetrahedrite is also a source of copper it's usually not a big deal. Sphalerite can only be found in metamorphic layers, so it can be rare as well, although I never seem to have an issue finding a lot of surface deposits.

What rock types are you searching in? I have never had a problem finding all of the surface ores.

I was looking for bismuthinite on surface for over an hour in: Granite, Rock Salt, Mudstone and Limestone. Not even one of the small bismuthinite found. Sometimes get small tetrahedrite,

Now I have a world with only native cooper, tetrahedrite and sphalerite. I played here for 2h+ and got 3x64 small tetrahedrite, almost 64 small sphalerite and almost 2x64 small native cooper. That is really weird.

Took me way longer than an hour to find any bismuthinite nuggets lemme tell you, spawned on a big island where the only nuggets were sphalerite, native copper, and tetrahedrite.

But, I did find it, in two random locations while I was off looking for livestock islands 1km+ from my home. Was very very careful to note their X and Z coords so I could come back and get it, since I knew bismuth is only useful for alloying with copper and zinc to make bismuth bronze

As for cassiterite you can either try the tried and true method of just random looking underground in the proper rock types (which is to say, if the top rock isn't granite, then go down to the layers below the top after you get a pick and some ladders), or try and find an area where granite is the top rock layer and look for an exposed ravine to save you some time digging around (which is how I got lucky). But, it was the same as with the bismuth, it took me ages to find any cassiterite simply because it pops up on the surface far less commonly than copper ores (IE, native copper and tetrahedrite).

Hell, the ONLY reason I found any graphite and borax (was actually a mixed vein) is that I accidentally right clicked the ground with my pro-pick. Rough going but satisfying.

If I were you I wouldn't worry. You've got tons and tons of copper for the stone age, enough for 32 ingots when you get around to making a pit kiln to melt it down and cast it (absolutely my favorite feature of the early game, sure saved me the trouble of finding a stone anvil).

Wait, are you telling me you found graphite by accidentally prospecting at the surface level?

Yeah. I imagine I had my pro-pick out because I sometimes prospect at the surface in areas where I find clusters of nuggets (particularly copper) and I was basically at sea level. I'd have to check though to see what kind of rock it was, and it wasn't a huge quantity (enough for two crucibles) due to mixing with borax.

Wow, that's incredibly lucky, I would kill for enough graphite for two crucibles at this point.
