      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

multiple versions

6 posts in this topic

there have been a few older posts on the subject, they were complicated and I have not tried it in a while.

I would like to have a vanilla/modded version of mc, as well as a tfc version.

Is there an easy way to have this, or a prefered/perfected way to do this?

I would like to spend more time with tfc, but as I play with my kids on the simpler vanilla version I would like to be able to easier start up either version.

thanks guys.

I use Magic Launcher, which allows you to set up various configurations of mods and save them as presets.  It also makes changing/updating mods extraordinarily simple.

Overview

MultiMC is a free, open source launcher for Minecraft. It allows you to have multiple, separate instances of Minecraft (each with their own mods, texture packs, saves, etc) and helps you manage them and their associated options with a simple interface.

MultiMC4 is currently stable and can manage Minecraft versions 1.5.x and below. The version on this website, MultiMC5, is in active development and can manage all versions of Minecraft that the new vanilla launcher can (including 1.6.x and above) - but it might have bugs in it. For MultiMC4 please visit Forkk's website!

Or instead of using 3rd party launchers, just create a new profile on your vanilla launcher, and then click edit profile and check the box to change the Game Directory. Put a new folder directory here wherever you want to keep all of your tfc stuff, be it in My Documents or your Desktop or whatever. You then treat that new directory as you did your .Minecraft folder in that you put your mods/configs/saves folders in there. The launcher does the rest for you.

After moving all your TFC stuff out of .Minecraft and into your TFC Game Directory, just switching profiles on the vanilla launcher will do the rest. When you're on the vanilla profile (Your Username), it will only be vanilla, when you're on the TFC Profile (Whatever you want to name it), it will be all your tfc stuff.

Kittychanley is right.. The vanilla MC launcher has a built in way to have separate instances of the game... no need for third party tools.
