      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Minor Gameplay additions

8 posts in this topic

Playing in TFC recently, I have noticed some small issues that should be addressed and are quite simple in my mind to fix:

1. Lime-water should be makeable in a barrel, fill one with water and add flux. It would simplify the leather tanning production. Slightly more would be to make mortar mixable in barrels, but again, only a minor change.

2.Instead of raining in the winter months it should snow. Again, I hope a simple change. see below

3.The crucible should "Fill up" with whatever metal it is holding.

I hope these contribute to the development.

Just a bit of more in-depth thought on the implementation of these suggestions.

1. How would we handle dilution rates? If you put 1 piece of flux in a full water barrel (8 buckets), do you get diluted limewater (requires a lot more complicated code to be added) or does it just make a full barrel of limewater (easier to code, but bypasses the current balancing)? What about the other way around, the barrel is currently coded so that if you put something in the slot that it can eat, it will eat it. So if you put 8 flux into a barrel that only has 1 bucket of water in it, you'd only get 1 bucket worth of limewater. There would also be the matter of figuring out what should happen if you add water to a half-full limewater barrel or vice versa. Right now the only code for mixing liquids is for curdled milk.

2. If the temperature is cold enough, it does already snow. A blanket idea of "snowing in winter months" doesn't really make sense if its December and you're at the equator where the temperature is 10 degrees Celsius.

3. Renders like this can get very complicated very quickly, especially since there are 22 different metals if you count "Unknown Alloy." We would also have to decide at which points the visual "fullness" changes, since the crucible can hold 3,000 units of metal (30 ingots). If we broke it down into 10 different degrees of "fullness," you wouldn't see anything happening until you had at least 3 ingots worth of metal melted inside. Since the crucible retains its content when being picked up, there would also be the decision of whether or not the containing metal is rendered in the inventory sprite.

Answers:

1.Perhaps a craftable block of flux that could only be "eaten" by a full barell of water

2. Thanks, though I'm wondering how cold it must get, theres been times Im in snow drifts and it raining

3. I was thinking a not full/ full rendering, with the molten metal color of the either the largest component or the alloy.

Thanks for clarifications

Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius, so that's how cold it has to be in order for it to snow instead of rain.

Ice also melts at 0 degrees Celsius if you think about it.

I'd like adding/removing stuff from barrels to be better(not just flux, but say, making alcohol/tannin takes 1 grain/log per bucket or something), but I'd guess it take a lot of coading

Depending on how pure the water is, it can have a might higher melting point than freezing point. Sleet forms at temperatures above freezing. Melting as it falls.

It appears that there will be a method of removing liquids in the next version of TFC. Cramming 10 logs into a barrel of 10 L of water just seems crazy haha.

Well its a fairly basic game, not a weather simulator. So water freezes at 0 C for the sake of consistency.

Just pointing out the flaw in his extraction :P  Keeping it simple is always best. Especially when it comes to water/ice.
