      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Casting vs smithing

With the new casting and pottery system, do you still use the anvils? What do you prefer and why?

You can only cast copper or bronze, can't you?

If you want to go through the work to make the anvils first, you can technically work copper and bronze on an anvil. This is the only way to get copper or bronze armor. You need a copper anvil to make copper tools or a bronze anvil to make bronze tools that way though.

What about steel and Iron? Can we cast those tools too?

No. Only copper and the bronzes can be cast.

Hrm... pig iron is technically cast iron. With its high carbon content, cast iron is very hard but brittle and unworkable even when heated near to liquid form. It's completely useless as a weapon or tool metal because it shatters so easily. However, it might be cool if in the future liquid pig iron could be poured into a cast to create a pot, skillet, wood stove, or some other useful items, as it has excellent heat conduction properties.

May I just ask, now that the scribing table is gone, how do we smith things?

Kitty,

I still haven't used an anvil (I only play on hardcore, and this mod is hard), but upon reviewing the previously cited Wiki page I believe I see a minor typo/error. Under "Anvil GUI", Item 6 refers to "... and flux in slot 4, press this...". I believe it should refer to "flux in slot 5".

Thank you! The slot numbers were changed with the new UI, must have missed that one.
