      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Spinning Critters

4 posts in this topic

Version #: 7.86

Suggested Name: Spinning Critters

Suggested Category: Minor

Description: Animals and Mobs seem to get stuck spinning in circles. This especially happens when they are in water, or when near chasms or other holes in the ground. It appears to be a pathfinding bug. It happened to a deer near my house, it was close to some chasms, and was constantly running in a circle until I hit it enough times that it was knocked away from the area, and then it went back to normal. I also have seen several zombies and a wolf spin in circles while in water. They'll spin around several times before moving a few blocks, and then spinning again. Once out of water though, they go back to normal.

Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes

I've seen this too and they move very very fast in circles. I think this may actually be a source of lag for some people on slower machines. I have a pretty fast rig and suffered a 12fps drop with two deer running in circles in nearby chunks. Not a big deal since I get over 100fps normally, but on a slower machine that could translate into stuttering very easily.

You may be right about that. Pathfinding is an expensive operation, and if it needs to be done every few frames, then it can lead to quite a slowdown. I'm not sure if it is entirely TFC though, since I haven't played much vanilla.

I also noticed this bug. Same deal. Zeds would progress a few blocks in water, spin for a bit, then resume. I didnt notice any performance hits though, but then again, my machine is not a toy.
