      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[solved]ranged wood cutting

6 posts in this topic

Posted Image

i'm cutting on the single wood block at the bottom of the picture. this block didn't vanishe, but the Tree next to it is harvested. the leaves from the single block are not connected to the tree.

By the third stone axe used on the single block, the block is harvested and the tree too, only 4 bottom blocks of the tree remain.

Is it a bug?

the axe is cutting from the top, so it's normal that you are not able to finish cutting a big tree with a stone axe, like the 4 remaining blocks in your example.

As far as I know from playing, leaf connection have nothing to do with the axe range. I think that the axe will cut log that are one block away fron an other. So if you make a tree farm, let 1 block space between trees and you will be able to cut any trees at the same time. I would say that it's a side effect of a feature, to completely cut one tree without leaving random blocks in the air (and it still happen).

I don't know if it's even possible to change the code so it would make the difference between two different trees.

in my tree farms, i found that you should have trees spaced at least two blocks apart for the kinds that don't grow branches.

for trees that spawn lots of branches/leaves (like willow) i space saplings as far 15-20 blocks apart, if not more.

In a tree farm i was always planting them 1 apart, so cutting the trees is super fast. Of course it need freqent leaf cutting to maximize the sapling drop. My favorite is rows of souglas fir. By rows I mean no space between saplings and one space between each row. That make a lot of charcoal.

I've had this happen with ash trees (smaller trees -> axe doesn't break part way through). In a dense forest, chopping the base of one trunk may fell multiple trees. Breaking leaf blocks so the two trees aren't connected seems to prevent this.

If an axe can cut 50 blocks, and you try to cut 60, then the axe will break and cut only 50 blocks.

And it's normal that you can chop any trees of the same type te the same time. From experience in 77, breaking leaf have no incidence, but it might have changed in 78, I have not cutted enough trees to tell.
