      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Solved] Support Beams not working?!?

7 posts in this topic

Hey,

i am on Version 78.12 and it seems that i am not able to reproduce the picture in the wiki: http://terrafirmacraft.com/w/images/5/55/Supportbeam_example1.png

I place some vertical beams and some horizontal once at the very top. That works fine, but as soon as i place dirt or cobble ontop of the horizontal beams the stuff is falling down.

Here is a picture of my try.

If I recall correctly, some time ago dirt and cobblestone was modified so they're now a far more poor building resource (correct me if I am wrong). I am not sure how much of those changes are intentional given that, for example, cobblestone is one of the more realistic and intuitive materials for building early constructions (yes, even without mortar).

Cobblestone, according to change logs if I'm reading them right, now falls like dirt. Which means you need to have more support around the sides or it will fall. I think it's something like: bottom and at least two other sides.

Which means you will need to put more effort. Quick and dirty, this is the only way I could get the block in the center to stay up. ( http://imgur.com/UTQ4q3M ) Interestingly, when I would try to put the cobble/dirt where it should fall, it just sort of . . . hovered.

It is possible to still use cobblestone as a floor/ceiling . . . so long as you want to lattice support beams underneath. Which makes a pretty poor ceiling, since it takes up the interior space with supports. Would make an interesting design for a stilted house though.

Hm, you are right. After reading yout post i tried White Elm wood as suppoord beams and it workt fine.

As i place a cobble on top of a horizonal beam, the cobble moves to a side, like it would fall down, but stays there. Weird, but works.

So i guess it's a bug with Acacia wood, or is this intentional?

not intentional, acacia was added in 78 and many things had to be corected as it was not working as other wood types
