      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Compost

8 posts in this topic

Put some sticks, leaves, wood, grass, cover it with dirt, then wait for some days or months (in analogy with real life), any you'll get compost, what you could change with dirt, so you can grow plants faster in colder areas.

i figure ill put my own cents in this what if the rot we cut off food would be placeable like how charcoal forms in the pits and over time the "rot" would turn into compost if it was large enough stack and sat in a pit for long enough, it would give more reason to cut the parts of your food and make it not seem magical that the junk just stops existing. Maybe im just being too realistic with it but itd be a way of making fertalizer without needing to go searching across the continent for a single ore that makes it. Along with this i figured the food sploshions would cause alot of excess rot meaning that massive amount of meat isnt really a problem yah you lose it but it makes your gardens grow better/larger yield. With thati find the food sploshions alittle silly watching a cow turn into a cloud of meat and bones just feels..well not gratifying, would it be possible to have a corpse be places as a block and youed need a knife to gather the meat from the corpse and if left long enough the corpse would rot away quicker then the individual meat portions. itd also be useable as bait for the carniviorius creatures.

Getting compost from cutting off the decay on food is already very likely to be implemented in future builds, although it will just be the exact same thing as fertilizer.

There could be another use for barrel. You can put food in it and it automatically cuts down the decaying parts and start to containt scraps. With bucket you can pick them out and use the bucket in composting bin.

My input...A simple solution to fertilizer which doesn't involve animal waste is having us create our own compost. Simple way to do it, make a compost bin. The compost bin would be made out of planks and would turn organic materials which are placed inside it, except meats and dairy, into compost. It does this by speeding up the decaying process of the organic materials that it contains. Once the organic material fully decays, it will turn into compost. Compost should also have the weight feature.

I like this idea! maybe we could put the appropriate items in a barrel, seal it, wait a few ingame hours and it makes compost :D this would make early farming easier if you can't find sylvite

What if we had nutrient specific fertilizers, which, unlike the existing sylvite ore fertilizer, only increased 1 of the 3 nutrient levels. Like, you could leave a raw fish in the soil, or bone meal, or charcoal.
