      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Sovled] Chiseling the forge

12 posts in this topic

It has come to my attention that the forge can be chiseled in certain instances but not in others. Now what I mean by the forge being chiseled is the front block between where the PC stands and where the charcoal is located. My above ground forge had no issues with the front  block being chiseld right next to the lit charcoal, yet my underground forge is being a cocksucker and just cant handle any chiseled block whatsover. It disappears(charcoal) completely when the block is chiseled.

Because when you click on the stone with a chisel, it became a "chiselled block". The forge block on the block update start for search on solid blocks arount itself, but there are none, the chiselled block doesn't count as one. It's the same chiselled block if you use stone or even wood, as I understand, and so you could make forge by even wood planks which are a bit interesting. Or you could just leave one little knot next to the forge block, prevent it fell apart... Eh. So nope, you can't make it so.

The part that confuses me is how it DOES work when above ground. I'll get an account so I can upload a picture

Yep, that's interesting. I've done it above the ground too, with paved block, but I had no luck.

I don't know if this is intended or not but it'd be nice if it were kept, it looks pretty nice for decorative purposes.

Strange thing being as soon as I chisel the one in the bottom picture, the charcoal disappears. The above picture is obviously fine with a chiseled block in the front.

When you say "chisel" are you using the single pane/slab setting or the microblock/3d setting on the chisel?  A block that has the slab treatment done to it is considered an open air block on the side that's been slabbed, but on any side that is still full height and flush with the edge of it's block is considered solid to that side.

From what I remember, when you use the microblock setting, the whole block (all 8 sides) instantly is considered an open air block.

Ok, so I did some testing with 78.16 and here is what I discovered:

I went underground to test it just to be sure but this also happens above the ground.

When you chisel the block from NORTH-SOUTH direction the forge will vanish but from EAST-WEST it does not.

Why you ask? It's simple. TFC is considering the opposite side as an air block when chiseling (from NORTH-SOUTH or SOUTH-NORTH) and then you can do this:

If I chisel the block in the other direction this happens, and then kills the forge:

Edit:

I believe this is  a bug so change the title of  the topic to: [78.16]Bug Chiseling and forge    or something like that.
