      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Non-translucent doors and trapdoors

9 posts in this topic

In my last map I dug a hole to place my food jars, I dug it a little deep, placed a door to easy access and a trapdoor to avoid falling by accident (me or a mob). I wondered, why do this doors have to allow the light to pass so damn good? It would be very nice to have trapdoors and doors without holes to reduce the light in a room as much as possible. They can be made of metal sheets and/or wood. What do you think?

Oh yes please! I'm tired of using wood blocks as doors in the kitchen!

Excellent idea and very simple. I support this!

I break 1 block of thatch to get access to a dark room with 4 chests containing food. A nice hatch like the bloomery block provides would be cool.

So you have the food in vessels in the chests? Vessels slow down decay by 50%

Maybe you could craft two wooden doors to create a, "refrigerator/insulating" door which would have no light pass through and appear more solid, though that would be twice as expensive as a normal door. It could also be twice as resistant to zombies, making it more useful as a door for your house, though you would not be able to see out of it. Also, crafting low tier metal sheets onto a wooden door could also work, both for food storage and a stronger door against zombies.

Trap doors should be able to just be crafted with metal sheets to create metal coated/non-transulcent trap doors.

The need for metal would keep early survival food storage more primitive, and make latter/mid. game somewhat more convenient.

It's not possible to create a non-opaque door in MC because any block that is not a full cube is considered non-opaque and allows light to bleed through.

Edit: kitty informed me of vanilla stairs and slabs, so maybe it is possible after all. Anyways, it's something I'd have to look into in more detail.

Or, you can make the opaque doors and trapdoors full cubes

But I've seen other mods with a non-full-cube block that blocks light, so I think it's possible

Example: the blackout curtains from Extra Utilities.
