      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Better Fire model and slight fire tweaks

13 posts in this topic

  • I think a better fire model in this evolved minecraft era would be great!
  • The normal fire should not be permanent
  • To be permanent the fire should need a couple pieces of rocks around it (just placed on the fire, like 5 maybe) (similar to don't starve)
  • Some kind of spit should be required to cook
  • Maybe a nice sexy cauldron on the fireplace for my kitchen?

This is a visualisation I found on the internets

I really like the idea of a fireplace like that. I hope to see something similar in the future.

I know dunk has been working on some models (like reworking bears, fishes, etc) so perhaps he'll eventually redo this one. :P

I'm pretty sure there was something in works few version back. I wonder what happened to it. And I think Bioxx is not fond of 3D models, because they are resource hogs.

3D models for the fire pit have already been suggested many times, and Dunk has done side-project work for rendering cooking pots and stuff, but Bioxx shot it down due to the fact that if we start adding 3D models for one thing, you guys are going to ask for 3D models for everything. 3D models are resource heavy, therefore causing extra lag.

3D model should be made by Texture Pack creators.

Except that's not how resource packs work. The custom models in Minecraft will be a 1.8 feature (TFC is still working on just updating to 1.7), and even those are extremely limited in what shapes can be used and what the finished model can really look like.

Edit: They are also only available for specific blocks that Mojang has added the code for. TFC would have to figure out exactly how that code is working (which may not actually be publicly accessible), and apply it to all of it's blocks as well.

Well, If 3D models are recourse hogs what about the Chisel blocks?...I really think not that many 3D fireplaces would be rendered at the same time. And for example thaumcraft does not seem to hog my recourses that much.

Is rendering one fireplace like that more resource intensive than a horse for example? Is rendering 84 surfaces that intensive compared to the roughly 234 of a deer?

Have you ever played on a save/server that has a bunch of detailed chiseled blocks and placed plank items? It lags to all hell, and will even periodically crash.

that was my point :P compared to a simple 3D model its so much more resource intensive. Thaumcraft has so many 3D models and really does not hog my system too much. Also the new 3D models in vanilla do not hog resources much at all too. And especially with a fireplace, you don't really have that many around. I assume rendering a whole pile of ingots is a lot worse.
