      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Can't light forge

10 posts in this topic

Hey there, sorry If i'm doing something obviously wrong.....

I've managed to gather charcoal by creating a fire pit and have created (what I think is) a valid forge + chimney, when I attempt to light it however it doesn't work (see screenshots provided). Also it's worth noting that the fire starter doesn't loose durability so I'm guessing I've messed up the ventilation somehow...

Imgur Gallery of Set-up

As far as I can tell my design follows a similar structure to the bottom left example in the wiki picture.

Sorry if this isn't the place to post this sort of stuff.

Try to block the second block above the forge. It might be that the chimney can only curve single block above the forge and you're confusing the pathing.

I am probably wrong.

Are all the blocks around the forge stone?

Other the the block below the forge being possible dirt, I don't see anything wrong with your setup at first glance.

hoseja is right, the curving can only be at the next block above the forge, you have 2 blocks of air, you can only have one, two can be horizontally, not vertically

Edit: also take note of this:

The Forge like the fire pit benefits from having air above it in a 3x2x3 area.

Not true.  I just replicated his setup in creative and it lit fine as long as the bottom (and sides that we can't see, as well) were stone of some kind.  Leaving any of those as dirt would make it do what he was saying it does.

can you upload screens of your setup?

I would have agreed with Estaban, so I looked at the code for CheckSmokeStackValidity() again and I think I overlooked something the last time I posted about this, so hopefully this helps.

When the wiki says that the "bend" in the chimney must be immediately above the forge, it is not talking about a chimney made of solid blocks, it's talking about a path of air.

If the forge can't see the sky, then the code is looks for non-solid (ie air) blocks that can see the sky, but the positions it checks are 1 block higher than above the forge.

I tried to illustrate an example, hopefully this makes sense if you assume the green wool is actually an air block. imgur gallery

That should be working. As was said, unless one of the blocks adjacent to the charcoal is not stone/the pile isn't actually full (ghost block).
