      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

First off, I didn't put all the information in the Wiki myself. Second, that page was just put there today. The wiki only has 6 pages, it's still in the "getting the right into to put on each page" stage, so there's bound to be some misinformation as we try to make it as informative as possible. I personally try to avoid adding things that I'm not sure I'm right about, but it still happens.

In the end I think the unofficial wiki is going to end up with a lot of info. It's probably going to take a week, two weeks if its just me and the creator of the wiki.

I wasnt aiming at you specifically, but you were the last poster that mentioned that you'd do work on it today.

Work on the core concepts first. details can always come later. I wanted to post the firepit issue here asap, because it's going to be one of the first pages that new players are going to be using.

Mastering the firepit is key to succeeding in this mod. the bloomery/forge combo is a big upgrade, but it's also a complex and expensive one. it actually makes sense to make some tin/zink or bizmuth tools before you consider upgrading to the forge.

I'ma maybe record a firepit tutorial on YT tonight if i get the time. (that is where my playtime disappears mostly)

Fair enough. I guess we'll just grind out the pages first then.

Did I cause this? I suppose this was inevitable but count me in as one of the main supporting editors! We're so gonna kick ass.

Well, Bioxx closed down the thread of the unofficial one. I posted a reply on the front page of the wiki (spoiler: it's not closing down).

I don't think that was a wise decision to close the thread. However, the problem is how some criticism is fielded here, you guys need to remember that calling an official wiki "shit" and "horrible" does not help. I DO think that it should be open to ALOT of editors if not everyone, thats how wikis work, however i see also how easy people field a shitload of swears in their "critics". Remember that mod can exist without a wiki, but not the other way around. And this mod is going places if it continues to be as awesome as it is. I know at least how i feel when i invest alot of work into something and the first thing i hear is what is "shit" about it.

So bioxx if you read this: DO consider opening up the official Wiki, its easier for you to control on what appears and what not. If you have few editors you will be relying on them (which is almost never a good thing), trust me, you dont want that when your development is picking up speed. Alblaka does it almost the same way (Industrial Craft) and it works for his "secret" recipes for instance ;) Let the people edit and give your current editors admin rights to overwatch it, it should be YOUR rules, you can't do that if you simply lock everything, the unofficial will be still up and it will be #1 in google if more people start to link to it and use it. So, reconsider mate.

Thats the thing, we are telling him that for ages, but he doesn't listen.

Both sides to this are quite childish.

A wiki should be open to everyone for edits. It's a combined knowledgebase, if just a few people are allowed to contribute at least call it a Documentation and don't even make it look like a wiki, that's just depressing.

On the hand bashing the official wiki on the frontpage of the new wiki is quite childish.

Signed, nothing more to add to this really.

It's not an attempt to bash it, as much as inform people of what's happening and why the official one should be open.

It's not an attempt to bash it, as much as inform people of what's happening and why the official one should be open.

This is the unofficial wikia for TerraFirmaCraft! Seeing as the official one isn't up for editing by just anyone, it's very ineffective in its current shape. This wikia aims to be a useful site for information, rather than the mess the official one currently is.

A wiki is built upon the basis of letting people that hold knowledge write articles for public domain, to inform and help others that may not be as informed as them. The official wiki does not provide this.

This is quite silly.

( This is removed as of now. At the time I posted the post you quoted this was still on the frontpage. )

With all this discourse over the wikis I feel there shouldn't be any wiki till the mod is out of its 'beta' stage. Figure it out for yourself like a real caveman and then ask on the forums for help :P. But then I'm a bit of an asshole when it comes to things of this nature. I'd treat it like putting the kids in time-out or what ever teachers do to their kids these days heheh.

I never called the official one "shit". The thing we're complaining about is the lack of being able to contribute to it...

I don't want to force noobs to spend 2 hours watching all the Spotters videos...

I have been watching this thread for a while, and now feel that I should say something.

Did everyone read Bioxx's two posts in the now-locked thread? I think he made it very clear why he does not approve of the idea of an unnoficial wiki, and honestly if the creator of the mod that we all happily use says that he prefers to keep to a single official wiki editted by a few entrusted people and not just everyone, then I believe that request should be honored.

I sympathize completely with the belief that wikis should be freely editable by everyone, but as Bioxx mentioned there are reasons against going about it that way. He also said the current wiki is whitelisted, so if you do wish to contribute and help make it more complete then you can apply for edditing permissions.
