      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Ore Purification

9 posts in this topic

After a well done trip of mining all the way down to bedrock (took approximately 20hr) and a splendid idea came to mind.

After we dig the ore it needs to be purified by water flowing downwards in 3 different basins (that is where all the waste goes) and then landing in a last pool ready to be collected. The waste that comes with this process can be put into a sluice box to gain gems. After that, the ore is ready to be melted in a firepit/bloomery to then gain your splendid metal.

Ooh, this is a cool idea. As it stands right now, your pickaxe is magically capable of perfectly isolating the ore from its' surrounding stone. A big part of the mining industry is the isolation of the incoming ore and eventual pure metals, so this could work nicely. Would also be a good reason to finally make that Sluice.

Not really realistic though. In reality, it doesn't matter if you get a bit of host rock in the bloomery or fire pit, it will just collect in the slag. I've talked to bioxx about this sort of thing before, and its pretty much a no-go. sorry guys.

Fair enough, I hadn't thought about the slag part.

And wouldn't the slag fuse with the metal making it useless...

And in fact it is realistic as in primitive times this process was once taken to purify ore such as silver, copper and gold,

like in the Laurium mines that used rain water to cleanse the ore from impurities.

You should think about it though...

As you may notice the slag is floating and fusing in your metal making it pretty much useless.

And it is funny that the slag magically separates from the ore in a firepit.

In the bloomery it is fine to put the impure ore in because the waste ends up flowing downwards into a basin where it can be collected.

Please note that we are in the 20th century and that ore is much easier to process with new technologies
