I feel stupid for asking this, but how do you make an ingot mold. Nowhere on wiki does it actually show you how to make the mold, it just refers to it 50 times. I can't find how to make one anywhere, and everything I have tried is not working. Also do gold pans still work? Because I've gone through over 20 full pans and have gotten nothing.

Edit: Gold pans do indeed work, it's just that it's very rare for them to actually give you anything. This is intentional so that you can't completely replace mining and exploration with panning. It's very likely that after completely exhausting a chunk (filling 50 pans), you only get one or two nuggets.

Gold panning can be made a bit easy'r if you put the gravel block under moving water give you a little kick if your for some reason in a bad starting area, it may just be easy'r to start a new world in most cases.

Filling the gold pan from gravel and sand blocks that are underwater was removed in 0.78.14, so that doesn't work anymore.

You know I read that in the change log, and was able to do it on the 78.17 server and thought it was weird maybe the server isn't fully 78.17. ill look into it

I can comfirm that I can fill a pan with either sand or gravel under flowing water, but not source blocks in 78.17.

I think it works if it's under running water. Maybe it doesn't consider a flowing water block as water for the restriction (whether purposeful or not).

I certainly hope that isn't removed.

 

I also enjoy panning for the ores for my first ingot, so i hope that isn't nerfed *too* severely in the future. I have no problem with it requiring a lot of panning, that's entirely believable.

 

I've found that trying to get an ingot worth of ground ores is often a near impossible task on many seeds, or very easy on some, but they seem to be a minority
