      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Personally I find the animal farming bland so I have some suggestions...

-goat: goats can make milk and make more than 1 offspring but have little meat on them

-Moose: kinda like deer only bigger and slower

-black bear: a less aggressive bear that breeds with berries

-bees: found in hives on trees. break the hive with anything but shears or a knife and you receive 200 damage otherwise you get the hive and you can move it. right click monthly with a wood bucket in order to collect honey

lastly I have a  love for elephants so may you please add them  :) they could be ridden and drop ivory when they die (please suggest ivory uses)

I have a love for foxes, tigers and lions. I'd like those to be added as well.

These are all well and cool, but according to Dunk, every mob must have a specific purpose that is only filled by that mob. Elephants sound cool, and they would provide a lot of hide for leather production and the ivory could have some bragging rights kinda use.... like gems. Bees have been talked about before and a lot of people like the idea of honey and stuff for them. The lions, tigers, and other stuff like that need a new biome....being that they are from the Africa thats a warmer grassland/savanna type area.(At least in the southern part.) Goats have been ruled out at least milk wise because of how cows can provide milk.

Goats have not been ruled out entirely because of milk. The argument is that if goats are added, and that they can be milked, it will have to be so that you cannot breed them. In this way, goats would be to cows as pheasants currently are to chickens.

Another way to balance goats would be to make goat milk less useful than cow milk

Cows have higher milk production rates.

Another thing to note is that for cows, the milk automatically seperates from the cream, where you need specialist equipment for goats

So you could make cow milk a requirement for cream and butter based items

We have six different grains,10 different vegetables 9 different fruits and even a soybean alternative to protein . Why not two different animals to give us milk?

In Real Life humanity has been making goat cheese for thousands of years. Goat produces less milk then cows but are more resilient, specially to hot climates and can eat almost anything.

I must have misspoken, non-breedable animals would be game, not domesticated animals. Goats would have to have some other deficit, and the likelihood of them finding a place in TFC is probably based around the climate types we can create. Goats and sheep inhabit drier, hillier, more rugged terrains than the prairie- and forest-dwelling bovines.

I've done some research, and I've come to the conclusion that goats may not be anywhere close to viable as a source of milk. The data I've found is for goats and cows that have been selectively bred for dairy production, and I'm going under the assumption that both species would have the same relative potential; that the ratio of milk production for dairy goats : dairy cows would be roughly the same as wild goats : wild cows.

The data shows that dairy goats can produce 6 - 8 lb of milk per day and dairy cows can produce 70 lb per day. That's a ratio of 10 : 1, meaning each goat gives you 1/10th of a bucket of milk in game.

(remember, cows in game aren't giving you 70 lb of milk, that would be modern dairy cows, not the cows you find wandering around in TFC)

Still don't see the point. Why do we have so much fruit and vegetable variety then? Surely gameplay-wise it is better to just have one of each, isn't that so? Why do we have almost every type of animal give us meat if only pigs are intended to be bred for their meat production capabilities?

I agree we have a lot of different fruits, grains and vegetables. I think more animal variety would add to the game.

I understand that to many of then would cause LAG. Since I am no coder I have no idea how to balance this.

Limiting them is easy (spawn caps), the problem is it takes a lot of developer time to code animals

If dunkleosteus were to work on this, he would be spending time on this, which could be spend elsewhere

Now its certainly a judgement call to where dunkleosteus should be spending his time. Personally I think that should be up to him

Yeah I just think it would be cool to have more variety of animals.
