Costum Year lenght.

9 posts in this topic

Sorry for the new topic, could not find something with these tags about the subject.

I adjusted my year lenght and noticed that during the night it got hoter and hoter, close to 17 degrees. When the day the started i saw the temp drop again, it took a massive hit all the way down to 6,44 from the 17 almost going to 18 at night ....

So i went into my config files and because i could not think of anything else related to time/day settings i set year lenght back to default and reloaded minecraft + my world. First thing i notice was the temp being around 16.4 instead of 6/7 ish. I rubbed my eyes, did the same thing again to the setting that i had and poof back to 6/7ish.

Season dint change both cases had Early Spring, well Spring on the last 2 times i checked to make sure i wasnt tripping.

My setting was 192 days instead of the default 96, acording to the config and the wiki this has to be a multiple of 12. I wanted double the default so 96 x 2= 192 = 16 x 12, sounds about right to me.

High Plains Biome, +550, -8500 ish in the world, what happend am i tripping ??

I havent noticed anything else that wasnt correct but also dint check my temprature ever since i changed it. I have this 192 setting for atleast 1 and half ingame year now, the winter before this Spring also had ice during the night so i recon the temp wasnt that high during the night.

I take it other people use adjusted year lenghts, have they ever noticed anything wierd like this in single player worlds ?

Interesting. I'll have to take a look at this. Best guess is that i accidentally coded something based on the length of a default month instead of a custom one, although I don't know why I would do that.

Lol kept a close eye on it now, was going perfect until the 4th hour of the night, then suddenly from8 degrees wham bam 15 degrees on March 11th. and it does seem to shift ever so slowly. That must have been the reason why other worlds dint have cause they might have still been on the correct time shift.

I didnt do any tweaking yet also noticed nights are much warmer for the most part, than days. But then i figured that is probably ok since in reality the coldest part of the day night cycle is around 6 -7 am (i.e. at dawn).

I also noticed variations in max. and min. temperature from one day and night to the other. I'm sure this variation is intentional.

For tropical areas its should be quite normal for the nights to be around the same as the days i guess, maybe even indeed a tag bit cooler at dawn.

I dunno much about climates, let alone how they should work with seasons and locations in TFC, hench why i thought asking here would be better before screaming bug or glitch :P

For now just to be sure my crops aint affected to much ill swap back to default, Steve is getting sick of these peaches after that long winter ;)

Edit: Tested a bit more on another world, all seems fine (both default and costum) when im passed the season transition. Maybe it was just a glitch from the winter to spring ? The reason it might have looked normal under default setting could have been cause the transition period between seasons is shorter then my own edit on year lenght. Thus when i set the default it was directly in Early Spring rather then the transition from winter to early ? Stil a bit wierd to see sudge a huge temp diff between day and night and mainly it being a lot warmer at night then during the day ....

I set default lenght, and waited out another year just to be sure, seems its not at all related to costum year lenght but rather the early spring season. So in regards to that, sorry for the misleading topic title.

On a more important note though, is this normal behavior ?

Last night (the second night of the early spring season) around midnight the temprature suddenly skyrocketed from 8 degrees to 14 degrees and started to slowly rise as if it was day time. While before night fall it was 16 and dropped down to 7/8 ish as expected when the moon showed itself.

Still waiting out the next few days, but i recon they will have the same sort of behavior like i had when i made this topic.

And if not normal is anyone else seeing this happen, it be close to the ecator (+500 ish for me) or further away, maybe i just broken my client.

I know climates and season can have wierd effects, but this seems a bit odd to me, to think it all started over my jute popping out of the ground during mid-day early spring, dang jutes :P

I thought i noticed nights being warmer than dies back when i wrote the climate code, but i dismissed it as nothing. Maybe it's time to look at it again. And yes, each day has a slightly adjusted temperature.

Ok atleast i might not be tripping in that case lols

I was quite keen to see the more normal temprature swings, as i had litterly had F3 menu up for a TFC default year now i can say that works rather nicely and quives a nice realistic tough to things in general.

Well except this one case in early spring, still waiting out the whole early spring season atm, but i cant quite put my finger on what it is, its shifting ever so slowly it seems but with the regular differences it hard to tell where that shift lies.

Quite funny to see the crops grow like crazy at nightearly morning though hehehe

Yep only early Spring so far, on default settings it like only 4/5 days orso that get freaked out, i got called away to help with dinner so i missed out a little bit. Proll wouldnt have noticed it at all playing on default lenght, with the differences in temp around Spring its hard to tell between the rain.

Not sure if that would affect my crops, just to be sure ill stay on default lenght till the issue is pin-pointedfixed, dont want to be out during the day while my crops pop out of the ground :)
