      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Rotting Wood

11 posts in this topic

My sugestion is simply that if you don't cover your stacks of wood and it rains then they will begin to rot and either be destroyed or converted into compost. This would make the first night log roof less viable as it would need to be exchanged before it rains. This could be easily shown on the logs with a few specs of green on the texture.

Another posiblity could be the requirement to dry wood before it is useable for fuel or perhaps just to make it more efficent as in reality this must be done to remove the moisture from the wood. Certain woods could perhaps dry faster or already be fairly dry to speed up the change.

Not bad of an idea... It would be quiet cool if it was implemented...

Thought of this before, but was to lazy to post :D but indeed, you need like a little shed to store in outside, and if it was possible, make chests not accept logs :D

That's both mean and great at the same time! Tweak it a little: how about making *single* chests not accept wood, but allow double chests to contain logs?

Or we could jump the shark and go for a "half the inventory space if you place logs in there", to show how big the logs are and how bulky they get when placed in a chest. But this one is harder... maybe "only in double chests" is enough of a limit.

I would just like it that you can't put them in, it makes the need of stacking your wood. wich is a really awesome look if you see a stack of wood against the wall under a little cover. :D

This would be a great addition. This whole mod removes all the trivialization of survival put in place by Minecraft. The addition of wood storage management adds a whole new layer of complexity.

Perhaps if rain comes in contact with a wood pile or chest that contains wood, it would turn the wood inside to have a "wet" attribute. Over the course of a few sunny days, it might recover to "slightly moist" but could potentially become "mouldy" if it is taking too long to dry, such as if the wet wood was put into a dark room. Mouldy wood could still be burned, but would take longer to burn and not burn as hot.

In response to DanNetwalker, I don't think chests should be able to hold logs at all. Planks, sure, but not logs. It would be nice if you could make some sort of placeable crate on the ground to put more logs into than a wood pile, or with the same amount but just having a new appearance and wouldn't disappear when all the logs are removed.

snip

I think using chests as storage should be discouraged by the mod in general so players will need to manage the storage of most raw resources by stockpiling them in the world itself, like what Jivix suggested with crates for holding more logs. It would force the players to be more involved in making sure they have enough supplies to last them, rather than dump everything in a hammerspace chest and get the total number of x items almost instantly.

Ok, I stand corrected. These have a good potential in the game, and I see the "shouldn't fit in the chest" may work better.

Maybe the "planks crate" could store the equivalent of, say, 4 log blocks (since they have a more regular shape, they shoud store in a more compact space).

So we should be able to 'treat' our wood so it won't rot using oil extracts from...... something lol.

It would be interesting to have a wood house need to be sealed before it's weatherproof. You could apply a clearcoat with some kind of enamel. Idk, might be stretching it a bit for surviving in the wild.

Depends. What if the wood rot takes a realistic amount of time, say... three or four minecraft weeks. That's between 21 and 28 minecraft days, that amounts to, what? ( 10 + 12 ) * 28 = 484 minutes... that's about eight real life hours to get the enamel and place it over the wood. Sounds fair even in multiplayer, I think.
