      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Solved] ProPick being stupid

6 posts in this topic

I found some silver ore directly next to a block that when prospected said nothing of interest has been found. I checked over 10 times to see if it was the false negative but it said the same thing every time so I took a screen shot. Look at it in the files. Please help me to understand this propick.post-12469-0-66942100-1406753357_thumb.p

The same block will always be a false negative. Try a different block.

As far as I'm concerned(this might not be how the code actually does it but it can be interpreted this way) there's a chance for each block to be a false negative, and it'll always show nothing. If it's not a false negative block,it counts all the ores in a certain range and gives you a result based on it. If there's at least 1 ore in its range it'll say a trace,as you get closer and more ore is in the range the reading goes up.

Yah, I originally thought the same thing nanu36, that it was just a random chance any block could read as a false negative. I've been told however, that if a block reads as a false negative, that block will always read as a false negative.

The same block will always give false negatives. Try to inspect the surrounding blocks. The propick can give false negatives in a real random way. Once I a hole FULL and i say really really full of rich copper veins and some blocks give me negative readings.

The prospector's pick is not exact, and not very reliable, so there will be a lot of blocks in which it will return a false negative, like everybody else said. Either way, you found your silver, don't complain ;) It's an intended feature.

It is typically a good idea to check multiple blocks when searching for ore in order to prevent false negatives from ruining your day.

well it wasn't the main vein so it was only the one piece

But thanks for clearing it up that certain BLOCKS can be false negitive givers not just the chance of a false negitive
