      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Question] Safe to change year length after starting server?

5 posts in this topic

Essentially we have played through our first terafirmacraft smp year together and felt a bit lack luster at the length of season. We were prepared for a long winter and it honestly didn't last long and infact only snowed for one day due to our climate. Then I thought about it and realized we wouldn't get to appriciate our crops during the summer / early autumn much either.

So my question is:

Can I change the length of a year in the server config from 96 days default to some higher value?

Will this adversely effect our world in anyway aside from somethings simply taking longer due to the change in time?

Not that I really know anything, but I believe I recall it being stated previously that it jumps you back in time. For instance, if you have played 120 days with a 96 day year you have played 1 1/3 years. So if you started Jun of 1000 it would be Sept of 1001. If you then change the year length to 360 for instance, you would no longer be in Sept of 1001 but in Nov 1000 with only 1/3 of a year having passed. I don't know if that will cause a problem, because I am not that knowledgeable. Neither can I be sure that everything that I have just said is not complete BS. Treat this comment as hearsay that may be accurate or not.

I did it in my single player world with no issues. It just rolled back the date like the poster above me said. I was nearing winter and it reset my date back to late summer. The only issue I could imagine is if you are already through winter into spring and have crops planted. Resetting back to winter would kill everyones crops.

Actually I've had experience with this. I usually set my years to 360 days, but when I joined a server one day, everything was flashing and the sun was glitching in the sky. It didn't matter how far time progressed, the sun stayed in the same position. If you want to edit this, make sure to notify anyone joining the server to change their year-length too, or else you'll not have a very fun experience.
