      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[0.79] Taming Wolves?

8 posts in this topic

Not sure I understand the changelog entirely on how you go about taming wolves. I have given them bones and petted them over the course of several days. They follow me and teleport if they are far enough away. I cannot issue command to sit, or prevent them from slaughtering other animals (cows, sheep, etc).

If this is in fact the intended interaction, personally I believe this makes the wolf/dog pointless to tame. I normally have one or two dogs that I tame and follow me on long trips for some protection and to keep me company as to not get lonely.

You cannot fully tame an adult wolf that you found in the wild. You can however fully tame puppies that are born from this wolf. You'll know the animal is fully tamed when it has a collar.

Ok that makes more sense then, however, how would you prevent the parents from killing things? I see that you can use a rope to tie them to a fence (which makes them sit), but when the chunk loads/unloads isnt there a possibility that the lead/rope pops off then they are free and will teleport when you are near... possibly killing your livestock?

That is indeed a possibility, but unfortunately that is a vanilla bug, and there really isn't anything we can currently do to fix it.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I do believe that wolves will only hunt livestock when they are hungry. So as long as you keep feeding your dog meat so he isn't hungry, he should leave your livestock alone.

I just ran into this issue. I wish i didnt feed the wolf bones. Now he follows me around everywhere and i can't make him stop. He will have to die or my sheep are done for... :(

Can't you just let him follow you around, then right before you go to see your livestock, tie him to a fence? That way, there is no chance of him teleporting because the leash was in a unloaded chunk, right?

I think we should have a do not follow command for all animals, so I could leave my dogs free inside my base without the need to tie them or the sit command.
