      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Intended][70.6] Charcoal pits destroy all logs if lighted incorrectly

8 posts in this topic

Version #: 79.6

SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): SP

Suggested Name: Charcoal pits destroy all logs if lighted incorrectly

Suggested Category: Annoying

Description:

I build a small stone hut (3x2 space inside), filled it with logs and tried to light it to turn it into a charcoal pit. As throwing a torch at the side does not work, I removed one logpile at the side and threw the torch there. The pit started burning, but I was unable to extinguish the fire to replace the log, so I instead sealed the now free blocks with stone. The pit gave off the burning particles, however instead of turning the logs into charcoal, it just destroyed all logs, even though it was sealed off completely after I placed the stone blocks.

As you are unable to extinguish the fire once lit, that means should you lighten the pit incorrectly you automatically loose all logs inside no matter what you do. It is also unrealistic that the fire spreads so fast, it took only a few seconds till everything was burning.

Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: No

Don't quote me on this, but I believe this is an intended feature, if there is ANY air blocks it will burn to the ground. The old way of building a permanent charcoal room wont work, I have been thinking of ways to do it, but have not thought of a way yet.

I really do like having a permanent structure to create charcoal, so if anyone else has a layout that you can think of, id love to hear it.

I havent had time to try this but my idea is replace the door with nonflamable but removable or passable blocks (dirt? metal sheets?) and put one of the new trapdoors in the roof for dropping in a torch

As doors burn now, I place blocks there instead. And next try I will dig a hole from above, throw the torch then place that block again.

Just tried the trapdoor idea and no that won't work either, it will crash the game:

Happened when I placed the trapdoor into the fire.

Edit: Breaking crashes as well... maybe I make an extra topic for that. ;)

Since the fire will destroy the trapdoor (not sure if that is intended, but well...) the only way to do a charcoal pit now is to use solid blocks (stone/dirt/glass) and completely encase the logs, then throw the torch from above and immediately place another solid block as soon as it starts burning. Which means that you always need to open that pit with a pick axe.

You can however use glass blocks in the construction to check if it is done.

... next try I will dig a hole from above, throw the torch then place that block again.

This works a charm. You have to wait for it to light, then refill the hole. I find it easier than the old way (and more logical).

The quickly destroying all the blocks is intended behavior. Charcoal pits are dangerous and scary.
