      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

76.xx food localization problem

6 posts in this topic

Version #: 79Suggested Name: Wrong implementation of adjectives on food itemsSuggested Category: AnnoyingDescription: The way 79 handle the addition of adjectives to food items make a mess in many languages where the adjectives are not placed before the noun and/or when we use gender and the adjective have to change depending on the gender of the food item.

Instead of displaying "Adjective Food Item" it could be displayed as "Food item - Adjective"

The actual solution implemented by the russian translation is to put the adjective in brackets, but it's kind of strange looking. As I did nothing like that for French, it look kind of strange.

Moving all adjectives in tooltip probably will solve this issues too (at least for russian translation).

The problem with Food item - Adjective is that then it doesn't make sense in English

Sweet - Not

Sour - Not Very

Savory - Ridiculously

etc, looks pretty weird.

I was talking about adjectives like smoked, cooked, pickled.... I guess I was not clear when I said "food item", I really meant the name of the food, not the level of the adjective. For example the food item name is "Horse Meat" and the adjective is "Cooked".

Exactly. For russian translation the main problem is gender. In russian cooked mutton will be "ПриготовленнАЯ баранина", but cooked calamari will be "ПриготовленнЫЙ кальмар". So, when we see "ПриготовленнЫЙ баранина" it cracks us up. :)

If we move adjectives in tooltip we'll have something like this for russian:

Баранина

Приготовлено

Солено

and for english:

Mutton

Cooked

Salted

It's ok at least for russian and for english. Don't know about french.

If French, the adjective is at the end and we have gender, for example, for "Cooked poultry" and "Cooked beaf" we have "Vollaile cuite" and "Boeuf cuit". To put these in tooltip would of course solve the problem.
