      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Arrow Heads: Stone and Beyond

56 posts in this topic

I think that the arrow heads be made in a mold, well the metal ones. That's how arrow heads are made now. They are not hammered into shape they are poured into molds let cool and sharpened. It would give another use for the clay, maybe and extra step after you mold the clay and before you fire it. You could also add a new block type, a sharpening wheel, which could be used on other things as well, like swords, axes, and chisels. Giving them an enchantment as the reward for a successful sharpening based on something like the anvil with durability.

What do you think?

Yea arrowheads should have a their own cast and you could make like a "arrowhead mold" and it fills with metal like a regular mold (maybe quicker because it takes less to make arrowheads) and when you shape the "ingot" it gives like 4 arrowheads, then you just craft them like you would stone or flint.

If you guys have been looking at the commits, they're revamping the metallurgy. To make tools, now you need a ceramic mold for each respective mold. This should solve the ingot wastage problem: to make an arrow, you need an arrow mold. All you need to to do is make it so an arrow mold only needs a small ore to completely fill it. You're right, an ingot for one arrowhead is a humongous waste. But a small ore piece should be the perfect size for an arrowhead.

Yea didn't see that they metallurgy was changing. Plus I've made some arrow heads on my youtube let's play and it makes 16 heads. Still the molds make more sense except maybe iron which has been pounded into shape. I would like to see the sharpening wheel as well. It could just be a modified enchanting table, in the code, with a different mechanic that decides what enchantment you get.

May be another path?

Use 3 clay to craft tip clay molds:

[  ][  ][  ]

[  ][0][  ]  - [ ^ ](4) clay mold for metallic tips.

[0][  ][0]

Then burn tip molds.

Use ceramic mold filled witch liquid metal and 8 ceramic tip molds:

[ ^ ][ ^ ][ ^ ]

[ ^ ][C][ ^ ]  - [ ^ ](8) get 8 filled witch metal caramic tip molds.

[ ^ ][ ^ ][ ^ ]

Something like this on?

--------------------------------------------------------Remember, you're going to have to heat the metal again. The way I put it, molten metal gets directly into the molds. I like the mold recipe, though. Just replace the ceramic mold with the arrow mold in the firepit, and heat a piece of small ore. When it melts, the small ore fills the entire mold instead or filling it a little bit, like it does with the ingot mold. That way, it doesn't waste metal but still resembles the ingot forming technique
