      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Solved] 79.9.357 Floating Trees in Worldgen

17 posts in this topic

Version #:79.9.357

SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): SSP

Suggested Name: Floating Trees

Suggested Category: Annoying

Description: I was exploring new terrain in my 79.7 created world and suddenly I am finding a lot of floating trees. Unlike the few I'd find before it was not due to ground collapsing underneath as most had not only grass, but debris, tall grass or flowers underneath. I'm not sure if this is a new problem, but I did not encounter it with 79.7 or 79.8 generated chunks. A few images http://imgur.com/a/8lZrZ

Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes
*If you answered no to the above question, delete your config files and try to reproduce the bug. This question is here because many bugs are caused by mistakes in config files. All bug reports should have an answer of "Yes" to this question.

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes

If yes, which mods?

Fastcraft

Optifine

NEI

Forge is 1217

Stones and grass indeed replace trees where they spawn after trees. This could be an easy fix...

In a 79.9 generated world I am coming across lots of leaf canopies with no trunks too. In SSP, while testing new seeds, could be related?

Could you please update and let me know if this is still happening in the latest version?

I'm still seeing a few, but not as many? And so far only on 2x2 trees.

In a 79.9 generated world I am coming across lots of leaf canopies with no trunks too. …

If something causes the dirt under a 1x1 tree to be removed (collapse, or just player digging, etc.), the tree trunk will slowly disappear from the bottom up, eventually leaving only a canopy of leaves which will disappear when updated.

Really? Sequoia trees? Those were the one tree I was sure I had fixed. :(

On my server (new world with 79.12) we also still have plenty of floating trees above tall grass, pieces of stone, etc.

Sequoias are particularly noticeable. Weirdly it's never only one block in 4 that's mission like on munin295's picture but always all four of them.

I'm curious does a floating tree just vanish in a random tick or does it progressively fall one block at a time. I ask because I was chopping a floating tree and the bottom block I was chopping vanished.

Flying trees delete themselves very slowly, block by block from the bottom up, which is would explain why the block you were chopping vanished.

I'm really frustrated now that this is still happening, because it means that what I thought for sure was causing it isn't, and now I have no idea where to look to fix it. :(

I just submitted a PR to (try to) fix it - just for Sequoia trees to test before doing all trees.

(Seed 3648625775791912469 had a nice candidate at x=227, z=-11281, near spawn point.)

Ok, hopefully now it's fixed. Please update to .13 and be super duper nice and coat your report in frosting if it's still happening. >.>

Couldn't find any floating sequoia or pine, which were the main trees I've found floating consistently.

<pinksugarfrosting>

I'm not seeing any more floating trees (yay!), but all the generated sequoias are doing this (0.79.13.468, leaves removed for visibility):

Posted Image

The tree narrows down to 1x1 as soon as the leaves start, always in the -X,-Z direction, with leaves replacing wood.

Reverting back to 0.79.12.427, I don't see this happening

Yeah, when trying to fix the floaty-ness, it looks like Emris attempted to clean up some of the leaf generation too, and removed a method that shouldn't have been removed.
