      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Automatically split food stacks when attempting to add overly large stacks to ceramic vessels.

11 posts in this topic

Kinda basic, but I was having issues getting full food stacks into ceramic vessels. I didn't know at first how to split them because it'd been a long time since I'd done such a thing. I was thinking it might be effective to have it take as much as possible on the first click, or have shift click add it as both split iterations of the stack.

But having a knife in the onventory as a condition. I like this idea!

That'd be acceptable. Just to make it simpler to use the ceramic vessels for food. I like how food has different size and weight depending on amount, but having to manually split it can be a hassle.

This is similar to the "split in half hot key" topic where pressing H would split the stack in half for easier vessel filling, I don't think that idea got much love though.

I was just thinking this wouldn't need a hotkey added. Could you like to that, because I couldn't find that in a search?

Also, I was just figuring this might be something that'd be a stepping stone to other code that might lead to future additions.

If I remember correctly, main concern with the split hotkey was that it would create more items, which is difficult to manage. This would not ever create new items in your inventory, only in the vessel, so I see no problem.

Now the question is, is it worth it?I tested putting food into vessels. I had an inventory full of full stacks of food. Splitting takes up more inventory space, so I had to throw items on the ground while filling a few vessels at a time. It took me around 5 in-game hours, which is 5? RL minutes?

Putting a stack of food into a vessel requires 17 clicks: 1 to open inventory, 2 to put knife in crafting table, 2 to put food in, 2 to split and put food in inventory, 2 to take remaining food out of crafting and into inventory, 1 to close inventory (dropping knife), 1 to right click on vessel, 4 to put 2 half foods into vessel, 1 to close inventory.

Taking this down to one to four clicks, depending on how it is done, would be great. For example: 1 to open vessel, 1 to pick up food, 1 to place food in vessel (it splits, leaving half still attached to hand), 1 to place remaining half in vessel, 1 to close inventory.

like it!, tough it's similar to magas hotkey suggestion witch I support too, any of these solutions would easyer food managing! in fact we should be able to select the amount of food we're taking of the stack, like making 100Oz stacks for vinager recipes

Edit:

Maybe something similar to the casting interface, were you right click with a stack of food and a knife in your hotbar to open the interface, select the stack size, then proceed to cut the stacks manually at the desired size to fit your barrel recipes (:})

this could also be used to stack food back to even more easyer stack management along with auto cutting decay on operation in this interface

one for the knife, the two other for cutting or adding food stacks

happy barrel managing!

This is a very valid concern, its just a personal preference to have more control and options for my items. If the auto fill does get implemented i will still be cheering.

I like the idea of a cutting board tile entity that lets you make arbitrarily sized, precision cuts to food. Maybe require a metal knife to use, so as to give metal knives a reason to exist.

This or a split-in-half hotkey would be very useful.

As for the hotkey idea -- what if it worked similar to the 'S' and 'D' hotkeys? I.e., mouse over a food item and hit 'H' and it cuts the food item in half and puts the extra stack in your hand. That avoids creating extra items in the inventory and goes along with the 'S' and 'D' hotkey convention (mouse over, requires knife in inventory).
