      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I know ores used to only spawn between y=5 and y=128. Is this still true?

Surface ores can spawn up to 240: bismuthinite, cassiterite, native copper, sphalerite, and tetrahedrite.

Pretty sure the only restriction on ore spawning is rock type. I can't think of an ore or mineral that I haven't found exposed.

Maximum Height 128
The maximum y-level the vein can spawn at.
Minimum Height 5
The minimum y-level the vein can spawn at.

 

The value varies for every individual ore in your config file, and this value is actually in reference to sea-level. So if the current terrain is at sea level, and the max height is set to 128, then the highest the ore can spawn is at 128. If the current terrain is 50 blocks above sea-level, then the highest the ore can spawn is at 128+50.
