      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Prevent grass growth

4 posts in this topic

I cant imagine that this idea hasn't been though of before but I wasn't able to find a topic about it.

Basically I'm looking for a way to keep grass from growing on to dirt with out having to make a new dirt block for each rock type(which is why I'm guessing this isn't currently available).

So that got me thinking about the attributes that food can have, is it at all possible to give a dirt block some attribute, while keeping it the same block, that could be used to prevent grass from growing on it?

If it is possible (that's a big IF) you could be able to shift right click dirt with salt or craft dirt and salt together to apply said attribute.

Now I'm guessing that's probably not possible so an alternative could be adding a block similar to the chiseled block, which is able to use the different textures of rock, limiting how many block would have to be added.

There are many problems with this suggestion I'm sure, but I would love to be able to have grass free dirt.

Blocks really can't have separate values in 1.7 without using a different metadata value and therefore using up another ID.

As for your chiseled block comparison, that actually is a completely different set of blocks than the raw stone. Same goes for bricks and cobblestone. They are all completely individual sets of blocks.

Edit: In case you didn't know, grass will only spread to dirt blocks that have direct access to the sky. So covering your dirt with any other block including torches, glass, string, etc even way up in the air where it really isn't visible will stop all grass from spreading onto it.

I am trying to imagine in what circumstance would you need to modify the code in order to achieve this effect.

Grass only spreads to adjacent blocks so it's very easy to control grass growth with non-dirt blocks. If you really need to have adjacent grass with dirt, just use gravel instead.

Alright then, Its too bad that wouldn't work out that way.

I do get how grass spreads I was just trying to think of an equivalent to the coarse dirt that's in vanilla with out having to add that block to each rock type.
