      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

FPS drop when exploring from 150+ to 0. Almost unplayable.

Version #: 0.79.14.514

SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): Both

Suggested Name: FPS Loading Chunk Problem

Suggested Category: Annoying

Description: Walking around loading new things will spark a huge fps drop from 150+ down to 0 for a few seconds, and then return to normal. Playing in an already loaded area, though is fine. Have already changed my JVM arguments to this:

-Xmn1G -Xms3G -Xmx3G -XX:NewSize=512M -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m -XX:SurvivorRatio=2 -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads=2 -d64 -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalPacing -XX:+AggressiveOpts

Also, tried 3 different versions of Optifine, updated Forge for 1.7.10, and lowered settings as low as possible. I don't know what else to do. It's frustrating since I just started this world.

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes

If yes, which mods? Optifine HD B4, NEI, TFC NEI Plugin, CodeChicken Core, Waila

If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? Yes

From the Download Page.

Minecraft 1.7 is known to have very bad lighting calculations which are exacerbated by TFC’s 256 height worlds. As a result, minecraft may run very poorly with TFC installed. To fix this and many other issues with minecraft performance it is highly recommended that you use FastCraft by Player . This mod is optional and can be run by both a server or client to correct issues with vanilla code. [*]*Update* Forge v1272+ seems to do a very good job at fixing some issues with the lag in MC v1.7. I still recommend FastCraft since it only helps even more.

With Fastcraft and forge 1272+ you should be running pretty well. However loading new chunks will always be a strain in TFC due to the way minecraft pre-1.8 handles rendering.

Also what is the -Xmn argument? I have never seen that one before and can't find any information for it. I know for servers you want -Xms and -Xmx to be equivalent, but I was under the impression that for client setting the -Xms lower was recommended. Personally I run -Xms512M -Xmx2048M

I got those arguments from @Kittychanley in another post somewhere about lag/fps problems. It didn't help. I'll try the new forge.

What operating system are you using? Is it 64bit or 32bit? What version of java are you running? Do you have any leftover versions of java still installed? Have you tried without Optifine since it can actually slow down the game even more with forge mods?

-Xmn - Minimum Allocated Heap Space, won't ever drop below this value

-Xms - Starting Heap Space

-Xmx - Maximum Allocated Heap Space

Sorry if I'm being redundant, but don't forget Fastcraft (as mentioned by Bunsan). My FPS is around 1/3 of yours and I was seeing bad freezes even on lighter mod packs (non TFC). With it installed the only time I see stuttering is when I'm traveling by boat generating tons of terrain, and even then it's pretty minor.
