      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Vanilla Issue]Wood blocks catching on fire through stone

5 posts in this topic

Version #: 0.79.15

SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): SSP

Suggested Name: Wood blocks catching on fire through stone

Suggested Category: Annoying

Description:  When using a pit kiln inside my forge room (completely surrounded by stone on the top/walls/floor), some wood blocks that I had set above the stone ended up catching on fire through the stone.  Is this intentional?

Fire spread is entirely vanilla. If you think the way it spreads shouldn't work that way, you'll have to submit a report to Mojang.

This is a vanilla issue. I can't remember what update this showed up in, but you need something like a 5 block space between fire and a flammable block. Doesn't matter if those blocks are air or stone.

Edit: Predictable Kitty Ninja post.

Fire can only spread to air blocks in a 6-high (1 down, 4 up) 3x3 area around the fire, and only to air blocks that are next to flammable blocks. And, of course, flammable blocks once lit can turn into fire blocks.

This means that flammable blocks in an 8-high 5x5 area around the fire can catch, if they are next to air blocks in the 6-high 3x3 area.

There doesn't need to be a "path" from the fire to the air, it just checks the whole volume, so you can't "fire barrier" part of the volume with stone, etc.

So, roughly, you need your flammable blocks at least three blocks away horizontally from the fire (fire, something, something, flammableblock), going down two blocks and up five blocks, unless you've made sure to fill up the endangered air blocks around the flammable block. Knowing this, it's certainly possible to make a 3-wide fireplace, with wooden walls coming right up to its sides. Just make sure you keep the stone going up high enough that a wooden roof won't catch either.

See Fire#Spread. Also, more than you ever wanted to know about vanilla fire.
