      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

TFC Version #: Beta 0.79.15.538

Forge Version #: 10.13.2.1272

SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): Both

Suggested Name: Bermuda Triangle Crash (Recommend something better, please)

Description:

Reference screenshots: http://imgur.com/a/Y1HRE

World Seed "459909687"

Spawn point x:22 z:-9030

Travelling roughly 300 blocks North from spawn causes chunks to stop generating, FPS to drop dramatically and the client to time out. This issue occurs while traveling over water at approximately x:22 z:-9314.

Originally, the issue occurred on our server, when any player approaches said coordinate from any direction, resulting in the server crashing and all players being disconnected and "Timed Out".

To attempt to isolate this problem I've attempted to reproduce the issue in SP with 100% success, unfortunately I'm unable to identify the cause.

This very same issue occurred, a few versions ago, on our server in a different seed. After several crashes/relaunches due to this strange anomaly the world became corrupt and wouldn't load. Two more instances of this issue in random seeds while choosing a new world for the latest version of TFC.

The only like circumstances that seem obvious to me are the presence of "Freshwater", "Saltwater" and "Fish". What's strange is that I've experienced all three of those criteria countless times in other seeds and not had the same issue.

Mimtos' "Fish Crash" post seems relevant. http://www.reddit.com/r/TerraFirmaCraft/comments/2q5f6k/fish_crash/

I'd appreciate any help correcting this issue or insight into the cause. If this is a bug, perhaps it can be squashed by the next version!

Thanks in advance! o_o

Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes

If yes, which modsFastcraft 1.13 (Occurs with or without Fastcraft installed)

If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? N/A

Pastebin.com link of the Crash ReportI'll edit in my crash log and any other relevant requested information later once I get home.

I was able to generate this area in my instance. (Fastcraft 1.12 NEI stuff). I did replicate the chunks not loading, but never crashed. Logging out and back in pushed by character position back 300 blocks south. I eventually loaded the chunks by going north and loading area while heading south. Nothing special about area. Just ocean transitioning to beach then plains. Definitely something odd in the seed.

Thanks for taking a look. My crash in singleplayer occurs after sitting at the edge of the unloaded chunks for an unpredictable amount of time. In multiplayer as a client, as soon as the questionable chunks are approached by any player on the server, all players on the server are ejected with a timed out message and the server doesn't recover (requires reboot). I too have, by approaching from multiple headings, generated the problem chunks. The issue lies within those chunks and continues to be a problem after the chunks become visible to the player. The detail that strikes me is that I've experienced this rare but world-ending anomaly over the course of 3-4 versions of TFC and at least 4 seeds.

If you're willing to or interested in further detective work, may I suggest trying two things; 1) Return to the now-loaded questionable chunks in SP and see if you're able to function within them (e.g. open a chest, transfer items from inventory to chest or other container +vice versa, craft, eat, drink, fish, etc.) 2) Attempt travel toward the questionable chunks as a client on a server (local or remote); The aftermath in the server log and behavior may indicate to a more familiar person, what is happening.

This issue, across all seeds and versions I've experience it, always occurs in or near freshwater, saltwater, fish and/or shore/beach.

Puzzling continues.

I tested it and got a crash - seems like a (the) problem with forest generation...

Soon after I teleported to 20, -9300 Minecraft freezes and after a while it crashes (one time it just got stuck shuting the internal server)

Mods: TFC-0.79.15.538 and FastCraft-1.9

New Directory = no config files

Crash log (lot of repetitive lines suppressed):

The crash report shows that you ran out of memory, and that you are only using the Xmx argument allocate a maximum of 1400M. Have you tried using Xmn and Xms to set the minimum, as well as increasing your Max to say 2G ?

somehow I missed Xms; -Xmn is equivalent to setting both -XX:NewSize and -XX:MaxNewSize testing with -Xms1G and -Xmx2G: difficult to use, near paging, so probably not good for longer playing. Anyway, using this, it kind of freezes - 3 minutes and still missing a lot of chuncks - and *bingo* got a smaller log this time. Still not enough memory:

I believe this is because how trees are generated. It can end up loading all chunks of a forest as soon as the first of its chunks is touched. So if a big forest is in sight a lot of cunks will be created recrsively (lot of methods on the stack). Worse if forests can overlap in a chunk. Not sure how that can be solved. Maybe a 2-pass chunk loading, or not generating tress out of render distance (what about MP?), or not allowing trees going over a chunk border (not really).but...thinking about it...it is more important to get the crash log from the original poster since his problem could be something else.

This is a issue that only started once I updated to .15 if that helps at all.

Only think that helps is crash logs and steps to reproduce.

There are no logs, absolutly nothing happens before when or after it happens.

The OP mentions server and client crashes multiple times. So yes there are crash logs. Without them I could equally guess there is a bug or the server owner is a troll and unplugs internet every time you go to that area.
