      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Buildcraft in TFC?

7 posts in this topic

I am not sure if this belongs in support or the addon forum but I am sure Kitty will move it if its in the wrong spot :)

I was wondering, with mods like Buildcraft and others, they change the terrain generation to add different ores.  I am aware of Mine Tweaker which you can use to change crafting recipes but would adding a mod like buildcraft to TFC cause other issues?  Will TFC just ignore the buildcraft world gen stuff?

Thanks a bunch Kitty.  I had seen that but hadn't checked it out.  So, am I to assume that if there is a mod out there that changes world gen (even if it just adds ores) that you cant just use mine tweaker and pair that mod with TFC?  You would somehow have to modify the mod to stop their world gen stuff so that it doesn't interfere with TFC?

The world gen in buildcraft, as well as the majority of ore-generating mods, is based off of vanilla blocks. For example, in order for buildcraft to generate ore, it first finds some vanilla stone blocks, and then it turns them into ore. Since there is no vanilla stone blocks in TFC worlds, buildcraft ore doesn't generate. However, you can use the TFCOres.cfg file to add other mod's ores in so that they generate in the same size and shape as TFC veins. These ore blocks will still use their default texture, and you won't be able to find them using a propick, but at least you can get them to generate in the world.

Thanks again Kitty, that's helpful.  Sorry for all the noob questions but is adding things for the pro pick to find more than a configuration change?  Is that more of a "unpack code and change it" kind of thing?

It's more of a "the code for how the propick works would have to be completely rewritten."
