      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Simple Improvement to Winter's Appearance

11 posts in this topic

So, any of you who have lived in a climate where there is snow regularly in the winter will know that 80% of the time, it isn't sunny.  What I propose is quite simple: when the temperature drops below 40 ºF (4 ºC), there is a ¾ chance that the day will be cloudy & overcast. (Think vanilla deserts during rain).  I thought of this when I was playing and noticed how much colder & more winterlike it felt when the sky clouded over as it snowed.

I think this would be pretty cool, but living in alberta it seems that it is often super bright out outside.

Winnipeg is one of the sunniest cities in North America. BC southern Coast is one of the warmest areas of Canada in winter and by far the most overcast.

I can say that Colorado, USA actually has more sunny days then California.  So while we may have snow on the ground it is usually sunny here.  While it is snowing, yes it is overcast but for the most part, our cold days still have sun.  Not saying all the days are like that but we have quite a few cold, sunny days during winter.

I'll complete the prairie provinces and confirm Saskatchewan is also very sunny in the winter, often the coldest days are sunny.

Its not that the coldest day are sunny, its that the coldest nights dont have clouds, so the day after, normaly sunny, its a cold day.

Reporting in from Gothenburg, Sweden. It's always overcast here. Season doesn't matter.

Lol not really that bad, but yeah, during winters we have overcast at least 3/4 of days. Not on the very coldest days generally, but otherwise, yes.

I assume the frequency of overcast weather is directly related to how close to the coast a region is.

From the Netherlands here, regardless of the season, almost always cloudy (sometimes combined with rain, but less then the UK)

we do have our blue skies as well but this is also regardless of the season.

If it want to freeze here in winter-time, then we need a cloudless days and nights for that.

snow (like rain) needs clouds.

The biggest influence on overcast skies is warm (relative) water ie Gulf Stream and mountains. Cold does not necessarily mean overcast.

That would explain Gothenburg perfectly.
