      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

New Minecraft Launcher

Hello TerraFirmaCrafters!

 

As I booted up Minecraft one normal afternoon, there was a new update for the launcher, promising a Java-free installation and a faster game. Could there be any issues with downloading said launcher with TFC installed? Thanks!

So the new installer actually does still use java. The only difference is that it bundles java in the launcher itself, so it doesn't require that java is installed on your machine. If you update the java that is installed on your machine, that message will go away because it does pretty much exactly the same thing.

Ah. Well, correct me if I am wrong, Minecraft runs on Java 32-bit, right? I have Java-64 to help with processing. Maybe I'll just keep the one I have in case

No. Minecraft runs best on 64bit java.

Yes, all the new launcher is going to do is run using 64-bit java, and probably the latest update for Java 8.

 

Edit: So if you update your computer to have the latest update of Java 8 in 64-bit, and uninstall any older unnecessary versions of java, the message on the launcher goes away.

Yeah I can't seem to download the newest version. I'll stick to the one I had. I just wanted to know if it would conflict

It won't conflict. If you install the new launcher, all it's going to do is literally update java.
