      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Overpowerd planks ?

14 posts in this topic

I really enjoy building with lumber. But it seems like a bit of a waste to me compared to the amount of planks i get from a tree....

This is somewhat unrealistic getting double the volume planks from a tree ?

I bet most of you will dislike my idea, but what if instead of a log giving 8 pieces of lumber it only gives 4 or even just 2 ?

Remember that TFC isn't trying to be realistic. The amount of planks that you get from trees is a balance decision for enjoyable gameplay. If we decrease the amount, all it does is make players have to farm more trees, which is adding nothing to gameplay but more tedium.

And builds like my realistic survival house would lead to sudden baldness and eye gouging! Lol

I actually thought about it too, but in a different way.

There is a thing that you can place lumber planks separately, and to fill a full block with lumber, you need 64 lumber, but in crafting only 4, and I thought that's it's kinda dumb.

I know it may ruin the balance, but if would have been cool if there was a way to turn these "realistic settings" on and off.

This would fulfill the needs of normal and hardcore players.

Simple solution. Minetweaker. Remove plank recipe and replace it with a 1:1 recipe.

What I have in mind for this is that the plank blocks are hollow, hence 2 plank blocks from 1 log. Makes no sense for chests, though.

Chest are worked upon, they look more elaborate hence they need more wood. ;)

For me, lumber should be a sheet-like block when placed, not a stick, so if you need only part of it, you can then just chisel it

Minecraft isn't very good in handling non-full blocks. So why that would probably look cool, it would reduce performance a lot. If you absolutely want a house to look like that, you can already use a chisel to cut it down to any form or size you like.
