      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Already Added] Making snow more dynamic.

9 posts in this topic

I'm not going to make too long of a post, just gonna give a though i had one day while watching the snow build up in my world.

In my personal opinion i think that snow blocks should function the same way "transparent blocks" like fluids, thatch, and leaves behave. this would include the various snow layers as well, which would require at least a total of 8 ids/ dmg values that each would slow you down based on how thick the snow is. it would make winter more of a threat and make the player think more on how to survive it, as well as adding a touch of safety against mobs, though not too much.  ;) i dont seriously think this will be implemented, but the idea is still nice to consider.

all thoughs and counter-points are welcome, let the comments roll.  ^_^

I like this idea. Perhaps a similar thing could be implemented where if it rains a lot- and I mean a lot- you would be slowed down a bit on blocks such as dirt, peat, clay, and sand. This would represent the creation of mud on these blocks (of course, the textures wouldn't change!) You would just be a tad slower, not enough to make it a big problem. If you had leather boots, any boots really, they would void these slowness effects, and you could walk at a normal pace. This could be used as an incentive for players to make leather sooner, and it could give armor (boots in particular) a second purpose other than for mob protection.

Nice idea.

I think if it were to be implemented along wiht the rain/mud idea and have (as suggested) leather boots stopping you being slowed by mud then snowshoes would also have to become a thing :)

I like this idea.

If you play on server with many people / houses / cities, when winter come you must care of building roads to move between cities fast. Same with rain and dirt. Only way to move fast - travel on the stone road.

Stacking snow will encourage people to clean the roads sometimes or even pay to janitor.

This is already implemented. Beyond the first layer which you step over, you walk through all higher piles of snow, and it does slow you down just like thatch and leaves.

Neat. Can you please define  "layer"?  is it the first 1/8th of a block of snow? (I believe this is true)...and snowshoes? ;)

Yes, just like in vanilla, each snow layer is 1/8th of a block. http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Snow_layer

There are no snowshoes currently, and no plans to add them since it's extremely rare for snow to pile high enough to warrant them.

The rain bit would be cool too. Didn't know about the snow though lol I always dug it up before jumping on it. Lol.
