      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Auto-unseal sealed empty barrels to prevent overburdening

7 posts in this topic

The idea is, every time the player picks up a sealed barrel, the game checks if there are any items inside. If not then the barrel becomes an unsealed one, like it's freshly crafted. That way:

  • It won't overburden the player
  • You don't have to unseal them every time
  • It won't placed to the back slot, so it's easier to find

Why would you seal an empty barrel in the first place?

If you've placed it in the open with a rainstorm happening and don't want it to fill up with water.

Well if you are breaking it then it would empty that water anyways. If you were going to scoop up salt water you'd have to break it. If you wanted to do most crafts you would want fresh water. If you were going to use it for storage, hitting empty button once is no more effort than hitting unseal once. If you are dealing if for immersion, then you wouldn't want it to auto anything. If you are doing it for OCD or ascetic reasons you'll just hat to deal.

I am really trying to understand this suggestion, so in short. You go around sealing empty barrels and then get upset when you break and pick up the barrel and get a overburdening message.

I do not see this as a problem, as anyone could just stop sealing empty barrels.

On the other hand, whenever I am working with multiple barrels, like when Brining, dealing with Alcohol and vinegar production I always end up picking up a sealed barrel that is actually empty.

So I can relate to Engreyight issue.

I think a solution would be instead of the game checking to see if the barrel is sealed it could just check for contents. If there is anything inside it would make the player overburdened, if not it just goes to the inventory.

Again, not sure if it is deserving the Dev's time and attention, as it is such a minor inconvenience.

With preserving you don't end up with a barrel becoming empty when sealed. The only exception being if the food within rots to nothing. So 99% of the time you are actively sealing an empty barrel.
