      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Terrafirma based game

9 posts in this topic

I think Bioxx accumulated some experience about create a voxel realist believe world, and about how to deal with this community. Voxel and semi-voxel worlds are becoming more common, actually with kickstarter option a opportunity is possible.Terrafirma have more content and and well worked content than the game base, and i don't think work with donations is a good stimulus.

Do the devs believe is currently possible they to create a kickstarter for a Terrafirmacraft based game?

This seems unlikely IMO simply since bioxx and kitty are mainly tied up with life and tfc. (I know at least one of you will say "but tfc IS life" lol. )

Mathias Ademar pretty much hit it right on the head. Kickstarters for game development also really aren't a very good idea, especially considering that most of the kickstarters for game dev out there are asking for waaaaay less money than they really need. Even if it was just Bioxx and I working on making a game, and we say it would take 1 year to make, we would need to raise enough money to pay both of us a fair salary for that year. You're looking at a bare minimum of $100,000 and even that is an extremely low estimate of the amount of money it would take.

With all the resources(infos, demos, open source code, ...) that we have today, i think it would be possible, but it would be very time consuming. Making a game from scratch instead of "just" a mod is a whole new kind of beast. A few months ago, i thought "whats the big deal, you just sit down and code your own game engine, add stuff you need/want and game done", so i started to make one... lets just say, now i think differently

So, would Kickstarter work? Sure, but only if you already did the hard work and can present a playable demo, imho.

After you have that, you can polish and add new stuff to keep the player community happy.

There are dozens of Survival type early access games in development on Steam right now.  To me TFC combines that genre with the ability to build and manipulate the world around you.  I don't know if a non voxel game could even come close.

Im making my first game (2D crappy graphics) and it is kind of like TFC, sandbox and stuff, but I dont think it would be possible for a good TFC like game to come out any time soon... I have spent hours working on it and I have barely scratched the surface of what I plan to do, TFC has way more than my game will, I would think it would take at least 1/2 year, probably more...
