      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Do deer, Pheasants, Bears respawn when you kill them off or are they like Cows etc. and never return?

Livestock in TerraFirmaCraft, including cows, chickens, pigs, sheep, and horses only spawn on initial chunk generation. These animals do not despawn and will not respawn after they have been killed.

Wild animals such as bears, pheasants, deer, squid, fish and untamed wolves can despawn and have the possibility to respawn using the vanilla friendly mob respawn mechanic

Huh, I would have sworn I've had new pigs and horses spawn near my base in areas already thoroughly explored.

I'll admit after wandering 20km and back to get a sheep, I found another one on the other side of a hill from my home. There is no way I walked past it 100x without noticing, so either it slowly migrated there from somewhere or it spawned. I haven't audited the code against what the wiki says, just quoting the official word.

maybe someone can give a diffident answer? I know squid and bass are easy but for some reason squid never drop calamari but they both respawn reasonably

The answer given is correct. Are you playing on a server? If that server is using cauldron that's probably why squid aren't dropping calamari. We don't support cauldron servers though, so there's not much you can do about that.

Edit: To clarify, the quote from the wiki is correct.

Bears, Untamed Wolves, Pheasants, etc respawn.

Cows, Sheep, Pigs, etc, do not.

I've had lots of issues with wolves killing off sheep and always wondered why killing off the wolves first was ineffective. Now I know why. Seems a little imbalanced though having a mob that is infinite hunt down and kill a finite, and vital, resource.

Wolves will only attack sheep when they are hungry, which takes a bit of time. So kind of like how the vanilla zombie/villager mechanic works, you only ever have to worry about the creatures going extinct if you leave the area loaded for extended periods of time without adding some sort of way to protect the prey.
