      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Cubic chunks

10 posts in this topic

Some time ago (a lot of time ago) the cubic chunks topic popped up in the IRC if I remember correctly, and after some discussion, the outcome was that it would be really helpful with a mod such as TFC. Today I just revisited the page of cubic chunks and was wondering...does TFC2 still use the old chunk system or is it in the plans to change direction and head for something like cubic chunks?

That would help I think, especially due to the terrain height and the laggy leaves. Also, when you break a block, minecraft doesn't have to re-render the entire chunk.

EDIT: Also, that could increase vertical height, but that's a secondary aspect, at least for me, I never built anything that touched the sky in TFC.

Mm, cubic chunks. Pretty.

I don't really think TFC2 will benefit a lot from cubic chunks, because the model of the terrain neither make mountains that tall, or make digging deep worth enough. Still want the lagless aspect, tho.

There are no plans to use cubic chunks. AFAIK, there is also no currently existing cubic chunks mod that is compatible with forge, because it's very likely that it really won't be feasible/possible to do.

Anything with CC is a massive undertaking. Theres a very good reason that no teams have really succeeded to this point. You really have to gut the vanilla gut pretty hard. And that's just not something that I'm interested in even attempting.

Thanks for the replies :) now, if you can give me an answer, otherwise it doesn't matter, can you tell so far if TFC2 will be less resource intensive than TFC1, so more optimized, or will it require more to be run?

This is an aspect I have often to deal with because of this laptop and I have no idea when I'll be able to afford something better.

As of this time, it really shouldn't be more intensive than vanilla. It does benefit somewhat from multiple cores due to offloading island pre-generation to other threads. But the number of spawned threads is configurable. Right now, too many features are missing to really be able to say how well it will perform in the end, but my goal is definitely to have a less intensive mod this time around.

This Is Not A Forge Mod!

If you try to make Forge load this mod, it will be confused and probably get very mad at you.
