      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Fruit Trees - Help?

14 posts in this topic

I'm not sure how to deal with fruit trees. Could anyone help me out here?

  • How do you harvest fruit?
  • How do you know there is fruit ready to be harvested?
  • Do fruit trees produce saplings; is there any way to produce more fruit trees?
  • How do you know what kind of tree you are looking at?

Thanks in advance!

I had many of the same questions, until I spent some time with fruit trees. Here's what I found out, maybe it will help.

Harvesting? You break the leaves that have fruit on them.

How do you know there is fruit to harvest? The leaf block changes to show it has fruit. Orange trees have orange circles, apple trees have red or green circles, and other trees... weren't planted at harvest time for me so I don't know what their fruit looks like yet.

Do they produce saplings? Yes! But not like other trees. You'll notice there are smaller wooden branches coming off the main trunk. if you chop those off with an axe, they have a good (around 50% from my efforts) chance of dropping a sapling.

How do you know what kind of tree you are looking at? Well, the banana trees wood looks different from the other trees, but otherwise you have to find a tree in fruit to tell the difference. Or chop off branches until it drops a sapling. I haven't discovered any other way yet.

Perfect, thanks!

Related: why arent my fruit trees growing fruit? I went in at the right time of year, but no fruit I'd showing in the leaves. And it isn't a graphical bug, cause I checked all the leaves and none of then dropped fruit. Also, what are olives for?

On my fruit trees, not all fruit appeared on the tree at the same time. If they appeared in october, one leaf would have fruit at the beginning, two in the middle, and one at the end (they were small trees at the time). SO if its mid-harvest for your fruit tree and you haven't seen any fruit yet, don't do slashing all the leaves off! maybe they just aren't ripe yet!

Also, it's been said that the trees are temperature sensitive, so if you are growing them in the wrong climate maybe they won't bear fruit? I dunno.

Out of curiosity, do fruit trees regrow the 'non-branch' leaves?

I will probably start experimenting with the system soon unless someone else gets time to explore and learn. To the point, to give people a small idea on the mechanics: the leaves are actually separate textures from the fruit. Each tree has its own separate leaf texture as well as flowering textures (I might have copied a few, I can't remember). The trees are definitely going to get a graphic update some time. I'm not satisfied with how they look right now (I think Bioxx agrees lol) :)

I did notice on my main world, while exploring in the fall, the absolutely beautiful bright orange of the plum tree foliage.

So I planted my fruit tree saplings, and now I have a bunch of cute little two block tall lollipop trees. Anyone know how to make them grow... less small?

They simply take time to grow, eventually they'll become fully grown trees like the ones that spawn. I think. Mine are still lollipops so I can't confirm.

Good question, I'm wondering the same myself. The wiki redirects to Food.

Do not break fruit tree leaves, right click to harvest!

All fruits, including olives are ... food. You can eat food ... and use it in meal.
