      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Varying Day Lengths Based on Season/Location

7 posts in this topic

Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the suggestions forum?(Yes/No):
Answering "no" to the above question will result in your post being deleted.

Yes

Based On Season:

I had an idea a few days ago that I though would be a great addition to TFC.

Would it be possible to change the length of days and nights to correspond with the time of the year?

ie, during the summer, days are longer and nights are shorter, and during the winter days are shorter and nights are longer.

Based On Location:

Change how long days and nights are based on where you are located.

ie, when its summer and you are far north, days last for very long peridos of time, sun doesnt set for several days, and if you are far south in the summer, nights last several days and vice versa during the winter.

I think is possible to vary the day length, but it has to be globally. The way minecraft works, just imagine 2 players on different locations, there is no way to make the day duration be different for them.

We already do it by season in our TechNodefirmacraft modpack. It's a custom version of the TooMuchTime mod that we converted for TFC seasons and world provider. It's on the ATLauncher if you want to check it out.

The skybox is global. We have variable day length in seasons, but in Southern Hemisphere the long days are in winter. We are willing to sacrifice believability for gameplay because vast majority of players live in northern hemisphere and there is nothing unique in southern.

I actually changed my World borders for my new server and have the world starting at the equator and going all the way up to -20.000, so players are always in the northern hemisphere.

I like the feature for single player, but for a server that 10000 in the equator where no player would set was a waste of server resources. We still have the equator, just the border is at the line.

The map still is big enough, Since it goes from -20000 to +20000 in the X coordinate.

I would suspect 99% of players are in the Northern hemisphere so we decided not to concern ourselves overly with the southern hemisphere. Having the extended summer days in the northern hemisphere is well worth it.  Especially when starting out. Those few extra minutes of daylight really add up.

It also works fine for a ways south of equator in that there is no snow. Sure it says winter, but as is 1 block over equator and season jumps. By equator really it is wet and dry not summer etc.
