      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Ore Generation Overhaul

11 posts in this topic

Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the suggestions forum?(Yes/No): Yes

Answering "no" to the above question will result in your post being deleted.
What I have thought about implementing in TFC2 is an overhaul in ores and minerals in generation.

1) I think that the generation of ores and minerals at default should be more realistic. Example: 10% of all ores generated should be iron ores, while if possible, bauxite will cover 16% of all ores generated. Furthermore, precious metal ores should be revamped. E.g. There will be as much silver as there is pitchblende while there will be less gold.

2) There could be new minerals e.g. mercury and phosphate to be added in. Phosphate and saltpeter will serve as ingredient for effective fertilizer while mercury can poison you, making you lose 1 heart of health per second for how many seconds you stayed in, translated into the number of minutes.

From reading what Biox has posted elsewhere, I'd say he's already readdressing the generation of ores.

Ok, but let the admins reply to see what proportion the plan to do. I hope there is far more iron than copper because realistically, it is so common!

TFC has never been about realism. The ore distribution will be whatever is required for balanced tier-based gameplay.

Ok. Just make sure you keep the TFCOre.cfg in the case I want earth-like properties of ore generation.

We haven't decided if we'll be implementing a config file for ores or not. It's not a matter of "keeping" the original one, because it doesn't exist for 1.8 and cannot simply be ported to the new version.

It's also important to note that the way you interact with ores is going to be completely different in TFC2, because of the new progression system that's tied into the islands. Each new island will contain new materials to progress to the next tier. You won't find any iron or higher tier metals on your starter island, because it's a starter island and we want you to move away from it.

Oh... Ok. Then I'm probably staying with TFC1 because it is more friendly to development because when there is high tier metals in your islands, it makes you want to work harder for going to the iron age. Also, it is supposed to implicate random ore generation, which I like, because there is a chance that there can be two deposits at the same time.

It could be in a condition where someone will port TFC1 to 1.8 and further develop it.

First of all, that mentality doesn't even apply to TFC2, because the entire progression system has been changed. The "islands" in TFC1 are completely different from the islands in TFC2, and both are designed in such a way to encourage players to progress through the tiers.

Also, don't get your hopes up. The primary reason that we started working on TFC2 is because we can't port TFC1 to 1.8 without rewriting basically everything.

Will we see ore veins generating above ground, like if we look at a cliff side will we see a cheeky bit of copper peeking out, or maybe a saucy bit of hematite leading into a lovely ore vein? Ples be so, as I get theatrically over excited when I see sneaky ore veins

Maybe... I am neutral with this statement. I don't know if the admins will agree.
