      Server Move   09/13/18

I (Dries007) have recently taken over as main developer and server admin. This involved moving servers to reduce cost. It's likely there will be some more downtime in the future but most  things should be sorted by now. This forum is in dire need of replacement as the software is quite old and can't be easily updated. If you wish to discuss or stay updated, join our discord: https://invite.gg/terrafirmacraft. The forum will remain available to read, but will be locked in the future, when a new system is setup. The forum and wiki are now ad free. If you'd like to contribute to keeping it that way, you can do so via paypal or patreon.

Waves and sea foam

7 posts in this topic

We have the streams mod installed in our server. I was paying attention to the way water behaves in rivers and streams and it gave me the idea to create this tread.

With the new tfc2 centered around Islands I think having waves and specially sea foam would add to the atmosphere of a Island beach.

Not suggesting waves in the sense of coming and going, I believe it would be hard to code and use too many resources as far as CPU and Memory.

Was thinking more in terms of having water that moves towards land and surrounds the Island, always going in the direction of Land. Like the stream water blocks.

As for the waves, maybe a sort of graphical effect that varies depending on the wind?

If we ever get wind in Minecraft it would be cool, for now I would be happy with a system where water would get shallow at the edge and with some foam effect. The movement could be constant from the ocean to the land.

I like the idea of waves, but it seems hard to code and probably too laggy.

Not a coder myself, but it is just a modified water block, like the ones used in the streams addon. The only difference is that it would be in the beaches.

Waves can be block animation. sound attached to said blocks. sea foam could be a particle animation. on top of the blocks. I don't have a good example currently.
