      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

One layer of dirt?

11 posts in this topic

So, i have just noticed that my world only has one layer of surface dirt, then its stone. Same goes for my other testing world.

Has this always been like this? I dont remember it being!

Ive also noticed that some clay deposits are made of multiple layers, which adds to the weirdness, so?

Heh, interesting. I observed this so long ago, i don't know when i first thought about it. Then i dismissed it since it did not affect my gameplay.

Isn't it normal for the world to have only one layer of surface dirt in an "Edge" biome?

Yea, I noticed it long ago and thought stuff just changed so I ignored it, but I figured I'd let e devs know since it might be a problem in the end

O good point!

I'll make sure to look into that and do some testing before I post a report!

So i have been flying around trying to figure stuff out, and i have found out that high hills biomes and edge ones have one layer of dirt:

Spoiler

2016-08-05_15.32.57.png

wont let me upload more screenshots, but beaches and plains biomes have a bunch of layers of dirt, then gravel, then stone. Also, i found a ,,plains,, biome with trees....like, a BUNCH of trees almost to the point where its dark enough for mobs to spawn! in high plains there were kapok trees, is this normal??

Btw dont mind the 2 holes in the stone i misspunched :P

Very normal as far as I know.  I don't think it's based on biome.  I love single-layer areas, because it's far easier to propick effectively, vs the areas that have like 10 blocks of dirt and gravel, putting the stone just barely in range of propick.

It's not always happening. I've seen it happen in some parts of some worlds, but not in other parts of the same worlds. I don't think it has anything to do with 'edge' biomes because I've found it happening in random places in the middle of a plains or something. I assumed it was part of terrain gen, but I guess it's a bug. It's very annoying when I'm trying to burrow into the ground to hide from zombies, and there isn't enough dirt.
