      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Quick question about crop growth speed

3 posts in this topic

After many years being interested in playing TFC, I finally decided to start up a game of the TCF Reloaded mod pack.

Now I have a question about the following config options:

cropGrowthModifier=6.0
yearLength=372

These are the default settings, but I feel the year takes too long this way. I decided to set that to 120 (a nice rounded off month length of 10 days)
Now I'm wondering if I should lower the CropGrowthModifier too.

I would like to harvest slow growing crops once a year at the end of the summer, and the fastest maybe 2 or 3 times. Is this setting good for that, or does this cause I can harvest multiple times a year?
I did begin my game with the above settings, I noticed my carrots were done in about 20 days. I feel that is way too fast, in this case I can harvest 5 or 6 times during summer/fall. That is when I decided to lower the growth rate, I'm just not sure how much I should lower it. What does a modifier of 1 mean? Or 6?

The default year length for TFC is actually 96 days per year, the pack obviously set it higher. The default crop growth is 1.0. The growth rate of crops automatically scales for year length. At 1 you'll get 1 harvest per year in most areas. At -13000 it will be close though. South, were there is little to no snow you can plant all year and get 2 harvests of crops (some even 3), but you'll get a lot more decay.

Word of warning it is highly recommended that you don't change year length in an existing save. Things in TFC depend on total world ticks. Shortening shouldn't break many things, but lengthening can bug out animals.

Yeah, I guess the pack has changed the year length, I read earlier that TFC usually has 96 days per year indeed.
If I understand correctly the cropGrowthModifier is basically a indication of how many harvests per year I can get. So 1 would be 1 per year and 6 (the packs setting) would result in 6 harvests per year. In that case I'll probably set it to 1 then, and maybe change to 2 or 3 if needed.
I'm aware of the fact that things will bug out if I'm touching the year lenght. I already started  new save. But thanks for the heads up anyway!
