      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Solved] Damage unless there is a block directly to the south of my feet

Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the support forum?: Yes

 

TFC Version #: 0.79.20.710

 

Forge Version #: 10.13.4.1448

SSP/SMP: SSP

 

Description: After a short time in a new world (enough to empty my thirst bar), I began taking damage unless there was a block directly to the south of my feet. This did not occur in a second new world, but it did occur in a third new world with the seed of the first.

Seed for the first and third worlds: 3781737006657065000

Seed for the second world: -6422311262774224897

 

Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes

 

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed? (Yes/No): No

If yes, which mods? N/A

If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? (Yes/No): N/A

Hit F3, what's the current temperature? You're probably taking damage from heat stroke.

When directly north of a two-block-tall structure:

rain: 1000, temp: 29.39, average bio temp: 29.04, apparent temp: 29.39, evt: 1.000

When directly north of a one-block structure:

rain: 1000, temp: 39.19, average bio temp: 29.04, apparent temp: 39.19, evt: 1.000

Nothing changes between one-block and no structure.

edit: If I walk a little way inland into the forest (and the shade, even though it's currently nighttime), the damage stops. Looks like it probably is heat stroke, considering those temperatures.

You take heat stroke damage if your thirst bar is empty and the temperature is above 35.

"Thirst is primarily depleted by sprinting and jumping. If you sleep through the night, the thirst bar will deplete half as much as if you had been awake the entire time. When the thirst bar is half empty, you will no longer be able to sprint. When there is only 25% of the bar left, you will get an invisible Slowness II potion effect until the thirst bar is replenished. If the thirst bar is completely empty, the current ambient temperature is above 35, and you are directly exposed to the sky, you will take damage simulating a heat stroke."

Directly exposed to the sky being directly vertical? It may be checking from a position one block too far south if it's intended as vertical.

edit: confirming that I can stand directly under a block (i.e. not be exposed to the sky), and it'll deal damage if the block directly to the south of me is exposed. Off-by-one error in exposure checking?

We're using the vanilla posX, posY and posZ values on the player object, so if there is any error then it's a vanilla one.

If I remember correctly, vanilla's determination of a flat coordinate (no decimal value) is at a block's corner rather than its center, so maybe something with that if the heat stroke condition determination is working with flat coordinate values? Totally guessing, but there is directional weirdness built into the game, anyway.
