      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Suggestions for finite water physics

5 posts in this topic

Currently when I dump a wooden bucket of water at the top of a mine tunnel heading down, it flows a distance and then vanishes, I suppose that is fairly believable, as some water would adhere along the way and create a thin spill rather than a cascade down the stairs causing permanent havoc, but what will happen if a more sizable body of water attempts to flow down, will it continue flowing and produce a proper flood or will it too disappear? I think we should be able to have torrents of water flow down, causing problems, and draining bodies of water that you accidentally open up into your mine.

I know this is a WIP, but I didn't see a water physics thread after searching the forum for "water", but if anybody has ideas to add, go ahead and post here.

btw i'm testing the large water flow-out thing right now, just to see if it behaves differently

it appears that the finite water programmed by bioxx flows in slices that attempt to evenly fill a space, I haven't quite figured out the rules about how far they're allowed to flow yet.

---edit

it seems with large bodies of source water, that water CAN flow and fill quite a large space, haven't figured the full limitations, but i suggest something: if there is sufficient water in a body of water, there should probably be a pressure mechanism, if the water is flowing out near the bottom, it should be flowing out with more "force" (larger chunks rather than just slices)

it appears that, to continue flowing, water slices require a minimum of a certain # of other water slices close by, or they "evaporate"

The only problem I have with the finite water is the buckets pick up a whole block of water, but will only fill a 1x1 hole. if you have a 1x2 hole it will not be filled by 2 buckets, it's more like 8. it should either pick up less water, or place a whole block of water in ANY size hole.

Not quite... it should, when placed in that 1x2 hole, fill both parts half way

Just tested another thing, two areas set up like tanks, the water levels do not equalize, the map also had an area I was using to test water flow
